“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
JUNE 2018

~The JUNE meeting was held Thursday 6/21/18 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.   Thanks to Diane's team for dinner prior to the meeting.  We appreciate all their hard work to make our meetings extra special with a meal so we can visit & fellowship with one another.
~About 55 officers, members & guests attended the meeting.
~No additions or corrections from the April - May meeting minutes.
~Be sure to introduce yourself to new member Bob Nicklaus and welcome him to the club.  We have several new members and we want to get know all you! Also - good to see Don Duryea back with the club.  We look forward to participating with all of you.
~Kevin introduced our guest, Amanda Mulsow.  She joined our meeting to personally invite club members to the upcoming car show & promotion at the Orpheum Theater.  After the car show the theater will be showing the movie American Graffiti as this movie came out in 1973.  This event is being sponsored by the theater and FOX 104.5 and KFDI. The show will go from about 4-6PM, cars will then move from 1st Street to a parking lot and participants can go see the show.  They have hired security for the cars so the owners can attend the showing.  They are asking for era specific cars for the event - 30/40/50 and early 60s.  Register online and contact her if you have any questions.  This event is Saturday June 30.  This is a benefit for the Orpheum Theater.
~Our very special guests for the evening were all the representatives of our charities and we were thrilled to be able to present checks to them with the proceeds from the 2018 Showdown in the Valley Car Show.  We also welcomed representatives from the Mulvane newspaper and from the Derby newspaper.  Thank you for helping us document this persentation with your interest in our club and with pictures.
Those receiving donation checks were:
*Herb Duncan - Kansas Honor Flight
*Linda Glazer & Lindsey Erickson - United Methodist Church F.R.O.G. Diner
*Kara Leeds - Mulvane Childrens Fund
*Cheryl Boyes - Toys for Tots
*Paul White - Blue Sky Ranch
 We also welcomed  Amanda Tuggerson from the Kansas Star Casino to help us present these checks to our charities - I know lots of Kansas Veterans, kids and families will be helped and assisted with these very generous donations.
*The club will also be donating funds to Mulvane High School as a token of appreciation for all they do to make our great trophies for Showdown.   We will also be presenting another Rock Sign to a city park in Mulvane like we have done for some years.  The park is yet to be determined but has been previously voted on by the club.
~Kevin suggested we once again give a donation to the American Legion for them allowing us to use their wonderful building - we have developed a very special relationship with them and some of our group are members of Post #136.  A motion was made by Dan Boyes to make this donation, seconded by Bob Barr - motion passed that we give them another donation this year.   Tom Kitchens accepted our check on behalf of the American Legion - they too are grateful for the donation and the relationship that we have together.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid & several deposits.  Even after our check presentations at this meeting, we are doing good as we will be having more dues collected and with the anticipation of the Calendar Project, we should be able to meet our expenses, do our club dinners, have 'seed' money for next year's show and still be able to help out in our communities.  We still need to pay for the 'rock sign' for one of the Mulvane parks in the near future.
~Dues are now due - we would like to get these collected in the next couple of months & close out that part of the club no later than the August meeting.  Steve gave a breakdown on the financials - if you want to know specific details on Showdown in the Valley or the money that was donated to our charities,  please contact him if you were unable to attend the last couple of meetings.
~Kevin reminded members of upcoming events and car shows - be sure to check the club website, the Cruisin Calendar or the KEYN online Cruisin Calendar for upcoming shows and activities.  If you would like to be a ROAD CAPTAIN for any event, just let us know where & when you are leaving and we will let club members know so everyone can cruise together.  Check out the club webpage for info on events and shows.
*Remember the Farmers Market Car Show on Saturday, June 30 from 8 to Noon at the new park.
*The Mulvane Old Settlers Rod Run will be Saturday August 18 at the Catholic Church parking lot like in years past.  You can pre-register for $12 - if you have questions, please contact member Chris Middendorf for details.
*Club member Fred Cook reminded members of the Mulvane 4th of July parade and mini car show.  The cars will end up in front of the museum & there will be an ice cream social.  Line up will be in front of the primary school and begin about 11:00AM. Parade begins at noon.  Please bring a big bag of candy and let Steve Nichols know if you are participating - 316-670-0240 or email at stevegnichols@yahoo.com.
*Paul White with Blue Sky Ranch announced to members that they would be having another car show at the ranch on September 29, 2018.  Watch the website for more details for this upcoming event.

~We have (2) of the large metal Marauders signs left - if you are interested in one, please contact Steve Nichols at 670-0240.  They are $30 each !  He is getting weary of hauling these around - let's get 'em sold.
~We have new club shirts for $10 and Showdown in the Valley event shirts are available for $10.  If you need a shirt, please contact Steve Nichols or come to the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS
~~~SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY UPDATE:
*Steve gave a complete & detailed rundown of all the stats & proceeds for our recent 20th Annual Showdown in the Valley at the April 21st meeting.  If you would like a complete list of the amount of funds that were distributed to these charities we will be glad to let you know the specifics.  Contact Steve or any officer.
*It was decided that the date for next year's show would be 4/20/19 - however, after checking the calendar - realized that would be Easter Weekend and we did not think that would be good for participation.  After the 4/21/18 meeting Steve asked Sonya if she would check with the Casino for a different date.  Members decided they would like to see if the Casino could accomodate Saturday, 4/27/19.  After reviewing this request with the Casino we were advised that the Casino already had an event for April 27, 2019 and our other options were still 4/6, 4/13 or Easter weekend 4/20.  After lengthy discussion and trying to weigh all the pros & cons and what would be best for the Show,  the consensus was that we stay with our original date of Saturday, 4/20/19 - which is Easter weekend.  That could be really good news with that date and we will deal with whatever presents itself for that weekend.  The club members decided they did not want 4/13/19 as that is Tulip Time & NSRA Oklahoma City, 4/6 lends itself to possibly still chilly weather and we do not want to go into May for various and many reasons.   Don Heersche made a motion we keep the original 4/20/19 date - Julian Heersche seconded and motion passed.  We have already signed contracts with the Casino and the Hampton Inn so this will be our best decision.   We will review these dates each year but think staying in April is best for the show.
*MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE 21ST ANNUAL SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY CAR, TRUCK & BIKE SHOW FOR SATURDAY - APRIL 20. 2019!!!   It won't be long and the committee will begin planning meetings.  In the meantime, we ask each member to help with any ideas for sponsorship, vendors and visiting with other car enthusiasts about our show.
***Marauders - please keep track of your ORANGE volunteer t-shirt - our goal is to print those next year for the new members & those who have not volunteered in the past.   All of you "old-timers" should have one - please put it in a safe place for 2019!!!!!!!
*A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE KANSAS STAR CASINO/HOTEL & ALL OF OUR MANY SPONSORS & FAITHFUL SUPPORTERS FOR ALL THEY HAVE DONE FOR OUR SHOW & CONSEQUENTLY OUR CHARITIES!!!   PLEASE
THANK THEM AND PATRONIZE THEIR BUSINESSES WHENEVER POSSIBLE AS A SHOW OF GRATITUDE FOR THEIR SUPPORT.
*IF IT IS  THE JUNE MEETING - WE KNOW THAT IS ELECTION OF CLUB OFFICERS.   Everyone was asked to consider an office or to make sure you visited with a member before nominating them for an office.
Kevin announced prior to nominations that current club vice-president Max Ayers decided not to run again for office for the coming year.  We understand and look forward to seeing Max at our future meetings.   We would like to thank Max for all his years of work and time he has devoted to the club - THANKS MAX!!!!
+Nominations were open for club president.  Bob Barr made a motion that the club retain Kevin Cardwell for president.  Seconded by Dan Boyes.  Doug Horstman moved that nominations cease.  Motion passed and Kevin will continue to be president.
+Nominations were open for club vice-president.  Don Heersche nominated Harry Funke.  Seconded by Gary Whitmore. Doug Horstman moved that nominations cease.  Motion passed and Harry Funke will be the new vice-president.
+Nominations were open for club treasurer.  Kevin Cardwell nominated Steve Nichols.  Seconded by Bob Barr.  Doug Horstman moved that nominations cease.  Motion passed and Steve Nichols will continue to be treasurer.
+Finally - nominations were open for club secretary.  Bob Barr nominated Cheryl Boyes.  Seconded by Harry Funke.  Doug Horstman moved that nominations cease.  Motion passed and Cheryl Boyes will continue as club secretary.
Congrats to our officers - we appreciate the time and dedication they are willing to make to help lead this great club.
*DUES are now being collected & due!   They are the same - $25.  You can pay at the next meeting or if you really want to get a jump on it, you can mail them to treasurer, Steve Nichols, P. O. Box 151, Mulvane, KS 67110.
~CALENDAR PROJECT:
We need (2) members to Co-Captain putting together a 2019 Club Calendar.  Please contact an officer if you would be willing to assist with this project.  This is fun & everyone enjoys having their car on the calendar - plus, it provides additional funds for the club to donate or enjoy for an extra party or dinner.  Club officers will also help as well as other members.  We have all the contact information necessary - the biggest effort is just arranging for the photo shoots.  Thanks to club member Marsha Hills for offering to contact the advertisers to see if they would be willing to support this project.  We feel confident most of them will be willing to be part of the calendar once again.  Once the pictures are done & ad information received, Steve can get it all to Envision for printing.  We would like the calendars to be available at the October meeting - BUT WE NEED TO START NOW.  Full page ad is $150 and half page $75 - 2 businesses or even members could go together and purchase an ad for a specific month.  We can accomodate specific months as long as we can - first come first serve. We will be discussing at the JUNE meeting - come prepared to VOLUNTEER.  And let's think of some kool places for photos - IF our advertisers don't care where they are taken!   We are waiting to hear from YOU!!
CALL CHERYL IF YOU WANT YOUR CAR IN A PHOTO SHOOT.  SHE IS MAKING A LIST - AS SOON AS MEMBERS HAVE SIGNED UP, WE WILL START SCHEDULING THE PLACE, TIME AND WHO WILL BE INCLUDED IN THAT SHOOT.  THANKS!
~We will be discussing the purchase of a new 10 X 10 club tent at an upcoming meeting - this tent would be used at Showdown for the gate area & any other event where we might need it.
~IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER THAT HAS SAID THEY ARE NOT GETTING NEWSLETTERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR EMAILS...PLEASE HAVE THEM CONTACT US!   IN ORDER TO KEEP MEMBERS UP-TO-DATE ON CLUB BUSINESS AND EVENTS, WE NEED TO HAVE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESSES.   IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER WHO DOES NOT HAVE EMAIL, PLEASE TRY TO "BUDDY" WITH THAT MEMBER & HELP KEEP THEM INFORMED ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON.  THANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS REQUEST!!
"ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*ABC Wife"
After being married for 30 years, a wife asked her husband to describe her.
He looked at her for a while, then said, "You're an alphabet wife ... A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K."
She asks, "What the heck does that mean?"
He said, "Adorable, Beautiful, Cute, Delightful, Elegant, Foxy, Gorgeous, and Hot!"
She smiled happily and said, "Oh, darling, that's so lovely & sweet, but what about I, J, K????"
He said, "I'm Just Kidding!!!!"
The swelling in his eye is going down and the doctor is fairly optimistic about saving one of his other body parts!!!
