“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
JUNE - 2019

~The June meeting was held Thursday 6/20/19 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion. Everyone enjoyed the meal at the Legion prior to the meeting.  We are grateful for Diana and her team and appreciate all their hard work & willingness to make our meetings extra special with a meal so we can visit & fellowship with one another.  If you see Diana and her team, please tell them thank you!
~About 40 officers, members & guests attended the meeting.  It was great to have representatives of our charities join us for the meeting and the check presentations.
~Thanks for supporting the club meetings - it's always great to see so many attend and participate in the meetings and the planning of club business & activities.  And a big thanks to members for supporting the dinners.
~Kevin Cardwell suggested that the club donate $500 to the American Legion as a token of our appreciation and support for all allowing the Marauders use of their facility.  Motion made by Doug Horstman we donate this amount to the Legion. Seconded by Tom Sparkman - motion passed.
~No additions or corrections from the May minutes.
~Kevin introduced representatives from each of our charities to the club as they received their checks.  Kris Carson and Kathy Nichols accepted our donation on behalf of the F.R.O.G. Diner/1st United Methodist Church-Mulvane;  Cara Leeds from the Mulvane Children's Fund;  Lloyd VanDever and Pat Leon from the Kansas Honor Flight;  Cheryl Boyes from Toys for Tots and Warren Johnson accepted on behalf of American Legion Post #136.  Donations will be mailed to Mulvane High School and donations will be made to the City of Mulvane when the next rock is ready for a city park.
Jeff Cott from the Derby Informer was present to take pictures.   Thanks to the newspaper, club members and Pat Leon with the Kansas Honor Flight for taking pictures of our event and presentation.
~Kevin announced that the Motor'n TV videos of our 2019 car show are on UTube.  There was considerable discussion concerning the videos and whether the club was interested in purchasing the video/CD's.  Members were encouraged to view the video.  It was determined at the June meeting that the club would not be purchasing this video and/or copies in the amount of $500.  Members determined we would not be able to recoup our investment by selling DVDs of the video.  Motion made and passed.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report.  After all deposits, final expenses for the show and our charity donations, all is good as we go into collecting annual dues.   Financial details will not be distributed via this newsltter.  We have not paid certain obligations but they have been accounted for and we will be prepared to pay them.   We continue to receive dues - as of this writing, about 50 members have not renewed their dues.  If you are unsure if you have paid, please contact Steve Nichols or check the website to see if you have been marked as paid.
~If you were not at a club meeting and want to know specifics of our donations to the charities, please see Steve Nichols at the next meeting.
~Kevin shared that all park signs that the club had previously sponsored are in place.  He will get with the city to decide on our next project and/or sign.
~Cheryl reminded members that we had received a very nice thank you from Ronald McDonald House for our recent donation of pull tabs.  They are so glad to have us among their contributors and have invited us to an open house of their new facility or perhaps a private tour in the near future.  These pull tabs add up - please keep saving them!!!
~Please remember the concerns of the club and those experiencing health issues and those who have recently lost loved ones.  The Marauders Club is a "family" and we want to ensure we reach out to those in need whatever the reason.  Please let Cheryl know if you know of a member that needs a card for any reason.
~We have about 10 calendars left after the show if you need additional copies.  Calendars are $5.00 each.  Once again, this was a great project and will provide additional funds for us to be able to help other charities.  Thanks to all who participated with us.   Members were asked to think about sponsors for the calendar project and we will revisit this possibility at a future meeting - hopefully at the July meeting.  IF YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP WITH THIS PROJECT IN ANY WAY - PLEASE CONTACT ONE OF THE OFFICERS.  WE TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP AND LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU!!!!
~Members were reminded of upcoming events and car shows - be sure to check the club website, the Cruisin Calendar or the KEYN online Cruisin Calendar for upcoming shows and activities.  If you would like to be a ROAD CAPTAIN for any event, just let us know where & when you are leaving and we will let club members know so everyone can cruise together.  Car Show season is just weeks away - the new Cruisin' Calendar 2019 is available - and the club has some if you need one.  You can pick up one at a meeting.

NEW BUSINESS
*We will be giving a donation to Mulvane High School to assist them in the Metals Department.  They do a wonderful job making our trophies and it is exciting to be able to help this high school class.  At this time any kind of scholarship for this class has been tabled as there are too many variables at this time.  Our donation will be able to assist all kids in this class for the coming year.

*Kevin announced that the club has the opportunity to help the Mulvane Patriots Baseball Team by sponsoring a game and make it Marauders Night at the game.  It cost $250 to sponsor the game - these are college kids from across the country that play summer ball and try to qualify for the NBC Tournament that is held annually in Wichita.  This year the tourney will be held at WSU Eck Stadium while the new stadium is under construction.  The game will be Wednesday, 6/26/19 and starts at 7:00PM at the Mulvane Sports Complex.  All are welcome - bring your car and have a great night watching the Patriots.  Jerry Fletcher made a motion to sponsor the game in the amount of $250 - seconded by Fred Cook, motion passed.   Thanks to Kevin Cardwell for his part in organizing the Patriots Team a few years ago and helping these young men further their baseball careers.

*DUES ARE NOW DUE - IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID AND RENEWED YOUR MEMBERSHIP FOR 2019/2020 - PLEASE SEND YOUR CHECK TO MARAUDERS, P.O. BOX 151, MULVANE, KS 67110.  IF YOU CAN'T REMEMBER IF YOU RENEWED AND PAID - PLEASE CHECK THE !!  SIGN UP A NEW MEMBER AND GET A $5 DISCOUNT ON YOUR CURRENT DUES.

*The Kansas Honor Flight is having a Golf Tournament and has invited the Marauders to have a team in this fundraising event.  We currently have (2) members signed up - Doyle Phillips and Dale Heckman - we need (2) more players.  If you interested, please contact Kevin Cardwell for more information at 316-207-5501.

*The next club sponsored club dinner will be Sunday, 9/22/19 at 1:00PM at the American Legion.  MARK YOUR CALENDAR AND SAVE THE DATE !!  Meal will be provided by the club - all we ask is that you bring your favorite treat for our famous "Potluck Desserts"!  We will have a sign up list in August and be deciding on a menu in the near future.

*Since we donate regularly to the F.R.O.G. Diner at the Mulvane 1st United Methodist Church - Kevin suggested that the club consider getting a volunteer team together and going to the Diner to serve on one of their Thursday night dinners for all those who need a place to go and have a meal.  Kevin will find out how many volunteers they would need and discuss a schedule with them so we can sign up.  We will be discussing this opportunity at a future meeting.

*The club still has a few 2019 Cruisin Calendars.  Steve will bring them to the next meeting if you need one.

*Remember the new ice cream shop in Mulvane - 'Lil Deuce Scoop' on Main Street.  Steve had some reward cards for this shop - check with him to see if any remain. The owners of this new business are anxious to see the Marauders at their business.  When the weather is warmer, perhaps we can cruise there after our meetings and do a cruise in later on.  They will offer a 15% discount for members after our meetings.
