“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
APRIL - 2019

~The April meeting was held Thursday 4/18/19 and called to order at 6:00PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Kansas Star Casino & Arena.  There was a meal at the Legion prior to this special meeting but most members came directly to the Arena/meeting.  We are grateful for Diana and her team and look forward to another great meal prior to the May meeting.  We appreciate all their hard work & willingness to make our meetings extra special with a meal so we can visit & fellowship with one another.  If you see Diana, please tell her thank you!
~About 50 officers, members & guests attended the meeting.  We are always glad to have guests & meet new members!
~Thanks for supporting the meetings - it's always great to see so many attend and participate and especially the April meeting so we can get the Arena prepped for the show.
~No additions or corrections from the March minutes.
~Kevin and Steve presented an opportunity to the club regarding our show and the chance to video the entire show with interviews of participants.  Frank Upton has a YouTube show - Motorin' - and has presented a package that would include a complete video of our show and all the cars along with the interviews and copies for a package fee of $500.  It was discussed at length with several questions being addressed.  A motion was made that we allow him to do the video/interviews for our show.   An amendment was presented by Steve Preston that we let the officers ultimately decide if this would be worth the cost to the club to promote the show and our club.  The committee will decide whether to approve or deny the contract with Frank and his video show.  Motion passed.  We will address this in detail at the May meeting on the outcome of the final decision.
~Steve Nichols did not give a treasurer's report at this short meeting.  After all deposits and disbursements - all is good and we are doing well.  As soon as the show is over, a complete reconcilation of funds will be given at the next meeting.
If you want to know the details, please attend the May meeting.  Financial details will not be distributed via the newsletter.
~Please remember the concerns of the club and those experiencing health issues and those who had recently lost loved ones.  The Marauders is a "family" and we want to ensure we reach out to those in need whatever the reason.  Please let Cheryl know if you know of a member that needs a card for any reason.  And please remember members in your thoughts and prayers who need to know we are thinking of them.
~We have about 10-12 calendars left after the show if you need additional copies.  Calendars are $5.00 each.  Once again, this was a great project and will provide additional funds for us to be able to help other charities.  Thanks to all who participated with us.   Members were asked to think about sponsors for the calendar project and we will revisit this possibility at the March 2019 meeting.
~Members were reminded of upcoming events and car shows - be sure to check the club website, the Cruisin Calendar or the KEYN online Cruisin Calendar for upcoming shows and activities.  If you would like to be a ROAD CAPTAIN for any event, just let us know where & when you are leaving and we will let club members know so everyone can cruise together.  Car Show season is just weeks away - the new Cruisin' Calendar 2019 is available - and the club has some if you need one.  You can pick up one at a meeting or club breakfast.
ALWAYS CHECK OUT THE "REVVIN' IT UP" SECTION OF THE NEWSLETTER FOR UPDATES!

~Member Jim Thomas announced the Wichita Area Council of Car Clubs was offering special parking for Marauders at the Lake Afton Show in June.  We will be compiling a list for this event - please let Cheryl or Steve N. know if you plan on attending and want to park with the club.
~Cheryl announced that the River Fest Show has offered club members a $5.00 discount if we have at least (10) cars enter the River Fest Show the second weekend of the event.  Watch the newsletter and announcements for more details.  You can also sign up for the River Fest show at Showdown as they will have a booth.  PLEASE let Cheryl know if you are interested in attending.  It is a nice show and everyone is in Century II and we are able to stanchion off the cars.  We will enter cars on Thursday and the show is Friday and Saturday.
***UPDATE - as of the end of our show Saturday, 4/20/19, we have about 10 members signed up to for the River Fest Show.  There is still time to get in on this event - let me know if you need an entry form or go to the Wichita Festivals website.  It will be a fun time and Century II will be "cool" inside as we have a great time of fun and fellowship.
**Member Fred Cook reminded the club that Mulvane will be having a July 4 parade and display like in years past.  Details to TBA.  And Tammy Epps reminded the club that American Legion Post #256 will be doing a BBQ for the Veterans at the VA on July 4.  They have asked for cars to display for the Veternas and guests.

~We have new club shirts for $10.  If you need a shirt, please contact Steve Nichols or come to the next meeting.  If you would like to have a club shirt in a specific color or need a jacket or sweatshirt, contact Kevin Cardwell at Shirts Plus.
~We have new black and white hats for $6 - let Steve Nichols know if you need a shirt or hat.

NEW BUSINESS
~~~SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY UPDATE:
*IT'S FINALLY HERE - THE 21ST ANNUAL SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY CAR, TRUCK & BIKE SHOW AT THE KANSAS STAR CASINO & ARENA.  THIS IS OUR FUNDRAISER TO SUPPORT OUR 3 MAJOR CHARITIES - KANSAS HONOR FLIGHT, TOYS FOR TOTS AND THE MULVANE CHILDRENS FUND.
**SHOUT OUT & HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MARAUDERS:
WOW - what a day, what a show and what a "TEAM"!!!  You all rock - Best show ever, Best club ever!!  A huge "THANK YOU" for all you do, through our donations we really are making a difference in our communities, with the Veterans and with kids.  As soon as we have totaled everything and reconcile our funds - we will let youi know how much money we collected this year.  We already know it was the most spectators, participants and vendors we have ever had.  This is the year we have been waiting for since we started at the Casino - beautiful weather, sold out inside and the outside lot packed with cars and spectators.  We are thankful and again - CONGRATS to all of you - you are appreciated more than you know - WHAT A CLUB!!!  AND A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE KANSAS STAR CASINO AND STAFF - WE COULD NOT DO THIS WITHOUT THEM.  Please be sure to thank them any chance you get along with all of our many sponsors, vendors and all those who helped to make this show a huge success!  Let them know we appreciate them!!
**As of the 4/18/19 meeting - we are SOLD OUT for inside the arena and SOLD OUT for vendors.  What a wonderful accomplishment !!!
**THANKS TO ALL THE MEMBERS THAT ATTENDED THE MEETING AND HELPED SET UP THE ARENA AND LAY OUT THE FLOOR.  THE FLOOR LAYOUT IS NO EASY TASK - BUT EVERYONE PITCHED IN AND GOT IT ACCOMPLISHED.  THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO STUFFED VENDOR BAGS, GOODIE BAGS AND SET UP THE REGISTRATION & MERCHANDISE TABLES.  WE COULD NOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOUR HELP PRIOR TO THE SHOW.
**Thank you to the members who were willing to place their cars and bikes in the rotunda of the Casino to advertise and promote the show.  Looked great and we appreciate your help.
**WE APPRECIATE ALL THOSE MEMBERS WHO DONATED WATER TO THE SHOW FOR VOLUNTEERS & PARTICIPANTS.  Our FREE WATER is another great promotion to show our appreciation to our guests for supporing our show.   This is a great thing to offer to the participants and show we are glad they are with us.
**We rearranged the Merchandise table along with Registration to make them all a bit more visible.  Especially for the merchandise area. THIS WAS A GREAT DECISION AND MADE THESE TWO AREAS THAT MUCH MORE VISIBLE - ESPECIALLY FOR THE MERCHANDISE TABLE.  WE GAVE AWAY TO ENTRANTS OR SOLD ALL THE "SHOW SHIRTS" EXCEPT FOR ABOUT 8 SHIRTS.  MOST SIZES "SOLD OUT" - YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   GREAT JOB TO ALL OF YOU WHO WORKED THAT TABLE AND SOLD OUR SHIRTS AND OTHER MERCHANDISE.  Plus - 2 folks joined the club!
**Once again the Green Room was available for volunteers and stocked with donuts, water and pizza during the show.
*The club has rented our new Storage space at a local storage company in Mulvane.  As of now, all of our "stuff" is scattered at several homes and tough to keep track of everything.  We are in the process of getting all items collected.  We will inventory everything, put up some shelves and get it all organized & moved to the new space.  This way all items will be centrally located and the officers would have access to the keys.
*The club still has some 2019 Cruisin Calendars.  Steve will bring them to the next breakfast and meeting if you need a cruisin book.
*Remember the new ice cream shop in Mulvane - 'Lil Deuce Scoop' on Main Street.  Steve had some reward cards for this shop - check with him to see if any remain. The owners of this new business are anxious to see the Marauders at their business.  When the weather is warmer, perhaps we can cruise there after our meetings and do a cruise in later on.  They will offer a 15% discount for members after our meetings.
*Please keep members who are experiencing health issues and those recovering from health issues in your thoughts and prayers!  Also those who have recently lost family members.
*CLUB BREAKFAST - Our last club breakfast was Saturday, April 6, 2019.  Another great turnout and great fun and fellowship.  We will resume our monthly breakfasts in November.  Please thank Diana and her team for these great get togethers - we look forward to them and is a great way to spend time with one another & support the American Legion.  Watch the newsletter & announcements for future breakfast details.
(Jerry Seinfeld)
*A Boy Scout was trying to raise funds for his troop by collecting bottles and cans.  He went to one house and asked an elderly woman if she had any old beer bottles.
"Do I look like the kind of person who would drink beer?" she sourly retorted.
"Sorry," said the boy. "Do you have any old vinegar bottles?"
*Keep going - Difficult roads can lead to beautiful destinations!!
*It might look like I'm doing nothing, but at the cellular level I'm really quite busy!
*One hunting season, a State Trooper walked up to a man and his son and said, "That's a nice buck you have on top of your car."
The surprised man couldn't say anything, so his son answered for him, "That's nothing officer!  You should see the one we have in the trunk!"
