“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
MARCH - 2019

~The March meeting was held Thursday 3/21/19 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to Diana's team for the calzone dinner prior to the meeting.  We appreciate all their hard work & willingness to make our meetings extra special with a meal so we can visit & fellowship with one another.  If you see Diana, please tell her thank you!
~About 40 officers, members & guests attended the meeting.  We are always glad to have guests & meet new members!
~We welcome Gene Diller to the club.  We are glad to have Gene join the club - be sure to introduce yourself to him and other new members.
~Thanks for supporting the meetings - it's always great to see so many attend and participate.
~No additions or corrections from the February minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid & deposits.  Our balance is good - only outstanding bill is for the (2) City Park rock signs.  Steve announced that the base had been poured for the signs and the stones are being cut for installation in the very near future.  Our balance for March includes deposits for Showdown entries and other miscellaneous receipts.   After all the disbursements - all is well as we go into Showdown.
~Cheryl shared the concerns of the club and those experiencing health issues and those who had recently lost loved ones.  The Marauders is a "family" and we want to ensure we reach out to those in need whatever the reason.  Please let Cheryl know if you know of a member that needs a card for any reason.  And please remember members in your thoughts and prayers who need to know we are thinking of them.
~We have about 15 calendars left if you need additional copies.  Calendars are $5.00 each.  Once again, this was a great project and will provide additional funds for us to be able to help other charities.  Thanks to all who participated with us.   Members were asked to think about sponsors for the calendar project and we will revisit this possibility at the March 2019 meeting.
~Members were reminded of upcoming events and car shows - be sure to check the club website, the Cruisin Calendar or the KEYN online Cruisin Calendar for upcoming shows and activities.  If you would like to be a ROAD CAPTAIN for any event, just let us know where & when you are leaving and we will let club members know so everyone can cruise together.  Car Show season is just weeks away - the new Cruisin' Calendar 2019 is available - and the club has some if you need one.  You can pick up one at a meeting or club breakfast.
ALWAYS CHECK OUT THE "REVVIN' IT UP" SECTION OF THE NEWSLETTER FOR UPDATES!
**Events to remember - NSRA Appreciation Day in Peck at Rodger Linn's on 4/6/19 & Tulip Time in Belle Plaine on 4/13/19.
Member Jim Thomas announced the Wichita Area Council of Car Clubs was offering special parking for Marauders at the Lake Afton Show in June.  We will be compiling a list for this event - please let Cheryl or Steve N. know if you plan on attending and want to park with the club.
Cheryl announced that the River Fest Show had offered club members a $5.00 discount if we have at least (10) cars enter the River Fest Show the second weekend of the event.  Watch the newsletter and announcements for more details.  You can also sign up for the River Fest show at Showdown as they will have a booth there.  PLEASE let Cheryl know if you are interested in attending.  It is a nice show and everyone is in Century II and we are able to stanchion off the cars.  We will enter cars on Thursday and the show is Friday and Saturday.
**Member Fred Cook reminded the club that Mulvane will be having a July 4 parade and display like in years past.  Details to TBA.  And Tammy Epps reminded the club that American Legion Post #256 will be doing a BBQ for the Veterans at the VA on July 4.  They have asked for cars to display for the Veternas and guests.

~We have new club shirts for $10.  If you need a shirt, please contact Steve Nichols or come to the next meeting.  If you would like to have a club shirt in a specific color or need a jacket or sweatshirt, contact Kevin Cardwell at Shirts Plus.
~We have new black and white hats for $6 - let Steve Nichols know if you need a shirt or hat.

NEW BUSINESS
~~~SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY UPDATE:
*ONLY ABOUT 5 WEEKS UNTIL THE 21ST ANNUAL SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY CAR, TRUCK & BIKE SHOW FOR SATURDAY - APRIL 20. 2019!!!  The Show Committee continues to meet & make plans for this great event.
**We have flyers/registration forms available - please pick up some and distribute to friends and family - let's fill the Kansas Star Arena and the parking lot.
**If you are going to upcoming car shows between now and our show, please contact Steve N and get some flyers to hand out at the other shows.  If you are going to Tulip Time or NSRA Appreciation Day - please let us know so you can take flyers.  We anticipate a great weekend and would love to have a lot of cars join us in the outside parking area this year.
**Our Team Captains still need a few volunteers to help with their teams.  Steve has sent out notes concerning this need.  PLEASE VOLUNTEER FOR ONE OF THE TEAMS ASAP!!  WE NEED EVERYONE TO MAKE THIS SHOW A SUCCESS.  We would also like to have some "alternates" available in the event someone does not show up to work their shift.  In fact, if you are at the show and wearing an ORANGE VOLUNTEER shirt, you should be prepared to step up and help out wherever that might be.  Remember this is a "club " event and we need all members to continue to make this a great show & support our designated charities!!  CALL CHERYL OR STEVE IF YOU WANT TO JOIN A TEAM AND HELP WITH THE SHOW.   Our Charities are counting on each one of us!!!
***If you volunteered last year - please look for your orange volunteer shirt.  For new volunteers, please let Cheryl know what size shirt you will need.  We need to submit the shirt list to Kevin so he has time to get them printed prior to the next meeting at the Casino.  We would love to have an army of 'orange shirts' helping at the event, it's impressive & shows everyone just how great a club we have & maybe encourage others to join our club.
**If you know of a vendor who might like a vendor table at the show let us know or get a contract and give it to them.
**The Hampton Inn has given us a great rate for car show participants - encourage folks to "Make It A Weekend" and spend the night at the hotel.  Members - want to make a weekend of working the Show and some Fun - call the hotel and reserve a room.
**Please be asking folks if they would like to be a Trophy Sponsor for the Show - these sponsorships are only $25 per award.  If members are interested in sponsoring a trophy, please contact Steve Nichols.
**We NEED door prizes - if you know a business or someone that would be willing to donate a prize, please visit with them.  We will be handing them out during the show instead of waiting until awards at the end of the show.
**Artwork is complete and we are working on dash plaques and shirts The trophies are complete - plans are moving along and it's almost show time.  We will use a generic design for shirts, plaques and advertising this year but will address this for the 2020 show and try to have different cars on these things - perhaps use the Best of Show car for the design.
***Kevin brought samples of the Showdown artwork and samples of shirt colors.  After the club had a chance to look at the samples of the 'blue' or 'green' shirts - a vote was held and the heather navy shirt was chosen.  Sponsors will be listed on the back and the Marauders logo will be on the sleeve.
** Please encourage folks to spend the weekend at the Hotel - we still have rooms for Friday and for Saturday.  They are part of the Showdown block of rooms and discounted.  Getting all of the rooms reserved is great for the show, the Hotel and our chance of getting the City of Mulvane grant again for next year.
**Please be telling everyone about the show and encourage other car enthusiasts to enter Showdown and support our show and charities.
**As of this newsletter - we have 88 registered for inside the arena.   Our window display forms will have the Marauders history on the back so our guests can read about the club.
**We will have (3) cars and at least (2) bikes for the Rotunda area of the Casino like past years.  This is great advertising for the show and for the club.
**Kevin asked members to please bring a case of water to the next meeting at the Casino.  We will have signs out for "Free Water" to our guests and make announcements as well.  This is a great thing to offer to the participants and show we are glad they are participating in our show.
**We will rearrange the Merchandise table along with Registration to make them all a bit more visible.  Especially for the merchandise area.
**The Green Room will be available for volunteers only and members will need to be wearing orange shirts to enjoy the 'perks' of that area.
*Kevin announced that the club was considering renting a Storage space at a local storage company in Mulvane.  As of now, all of our "stuff" is scattered at several homes and tough to keep track of everything.  This way all items will be centrally located and the officers would have access to the keys.  The storage company owners offered a discount to the club for a small 10X5 unit for $30 per month.  It makes sense and would be beneficial to the club.  Barry Burchett made a motion to accept this discount offer and rent the storage unit for one (1) year and then revisit at that time. Seconded by Bob Barr, motion passed.  The club will inventory all of our items and perhaps put in some shelving so we can get organized.
*The club still has some 2019 Cruisin Calendars.  Steve will bring them to the next breakfast and meeting if you need a cruisin book.
*Steve announced there is a new ice cream shop in Mulvane - 'Lil Deuce Scoop' on Main Street.  He had some reward cards and handed them out to members.  The owners of this new business are anxious to see the Marauders at their business.  When the weather is warmer, perhaps we can cruise there after our meetings and do a cruise in later on.  They will offer a 15% discount for members after our meetings.
*Please keep members who are experiencing health issues and those recovering from health issues in your thoughts and prayers!  Also those who have recently lost family members.
*CLUB BREAKFAST - The next club breakfast will be April 6, 2019.  $8 adult-12, $5 11-5yrs & 4 and under free.   Remember we need about 30 or more to continue to have the breakfast so bring family and friends and enjoy a wonderful breakfast prepared by the Ladies Auxilliary.  We are thrilled to be able to have this breakfast event at the American Legion - food is wonderful & we can relax & enjoy fellowship with one another.  Once again Bob Barr has volunteered to organize some garage crawls after the breakfasts.  If you are willing to open your garage, please contact him or an officer so we can get this event organized & scheduled.  Watch the newsletter & announcements for details.
ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible - Psalm 23.  She gave the youngsters a month to learn the chapter.
Little Ricky was so excited about the task - but he just couldn't remember the Psalm.  After much practice, he could barely get past the first line.
On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous!!
When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, "The Lord is my Shepherd, and that's all I need to know!"  Amen and amen!!!!!
*Day by Day what you do is who you become!  It's never too late to start...
