“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
FEBRUARY - 2019

~The February meeting was held Thursday 2/21/19 and called to order at 6:35PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to Diane's team for the dinner prior to the meeting.  We appreciate all their hard work & willingness to make our meetings extra special with a meal so we can visit & fellowship with one another.  If you see Diane, please tell her thank you!
~About 38 officers, members & guests attended the meeting.  We are glad to have guests & meet new members!
~Please welcome new members Rick & Donna Jensen from Mulvane. Be sure to introduce yourself to our new folks.
~Guests Jeanie & Lila were introduced by Kevin.  They announced an upcoming event at the Beaumont Hotel on 5/18/19. They will be celebrating the 140th birthday of the hotel and invited the club to come over for the festivities.  Kevin suggested a road trip to Beaumont - leaving approximately 8-9AM and returning in the afternoon.   Watch the newsletter for any details on this future activity.  If a member would like to be the road captain and plan this outing, please let us know.
~Thanks for supporting the meetings - it's always great to see so many attend and participate.
~Kevin read a thank you note from the Roy Calbo family for our contribution to his memorial fund at the Funeral Home.  He was a former member and passed away in January.
~Kevin also shared a thank you note from the Kansas Honor Flight for the continued support of the Marauders as they send WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans to Washington DC to see their war memorials.  They are most grateful for the club's outstanding donations and look forward to working together in the future.  Some club members have enjoyed and benefited from these flights to DC.  If you want to hear how much we are appreciated - ask one of these members about their trip!!!!!
~No additions or corrections from the January minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid & deposits.  Our balance is good - only outstanding bill is for the (2) City Park rock signs.  Our balance for February includes deposits for Showdown entries and other miscellaneous receipts.   After all the disbursements - all is well as we go into Showdown.
~All calendars have been picked up and we have about 15 calendars left if you need additional copies.  Calendars are $5.00 each.  Once again, this was a great project and will provide additional funds for us to be able to help other charities.  Thanks to all who participated with us.   Members were asked to think about sponsors for the calendar project and we will revisit this possibility at the March 2019 meeting. ??
~Members were reminded of upcoming events and car shows - be sure to check the club website, the Cruisin Calendar or the KEYN online Cruisin Calendar for upcoming shows and activities.  If you would like to be a ROAD CAPTAIN for any event, just let us know where & when you are leaving and we will let club members know so everyone can cruise together.  Car Show season isn't too far off - the new Cruisin' Calendar 2019 is available - and the club has some if you need one.  You can pick up one at a meeting or club breakfast.
ALWAYS CHECK OUT THE "REVVIN' IT UP" SECTION OF THE NEWSLETTER FOR UPDATES!
*Kansas Sunflower Swap Meet at Century II - Friday, 3/8/19 and Saturday, 3/9/19.  Several members will have booths at this event.

~Kevin announced that Bumper to Bumper will be a Corporate sponsor once again this year for Showdown in the Valley.
They will be a $500 sponsor and we appreciate their continued support of our annual event.  We need SPONSORS!!
Everyone was asked to try and get additional sponsors for the show.  We will be having planning meetings for the next Showdown after the first of the year.  A huge THANK YOU to Bumper to Bumper for their continued support and sponorship of our show.

~We have new club shirts for $10 and Showdown in the Valley event shirts are available - limited sizes.  If you need a shirt, please contact Steve Nichols or come to the next meeting.  If you would like to have a club shirt in a specific color or need a jacket or sweatshirt, contact Kevin Cardwell at Shirts Plus.

NEW BUSINESS
~~~SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY UPDATE:
*MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE 21ST ANNUAL SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY CAR, TRUCK & BIKE SHOW FOR SATURDAY - APRIL 20. 2019!!!  The Show Committee continues to make plans for this great event.   If you would like to be on the committee & help plan this great event - let any of the club officers know.
**We have flyers/registration forms available - please pick up some and distribute to friends and family - let's fill the Kansas Star Arena and the parking lot.
**We have TEAM CAPTAINS but we need VOLUNTEERS - please be thinking about how you can help out.  If you would like to volunteer for a team - please notify us ASAP.   Remember this is a "club " event and we need all members to continue to make this a great show & support our designated charities!!  CALL CHERYL OR STEVE IF YOU WANT TO JOIN A TEAM AND HELP WITH THE SHOW.   Our Charities are counting on each one of us!!!
***If you volunteered last year - please look for your orange volunteer shirt.  For new volunteers, please let Cheryl know what size shirt you will need.  We would love to have an army of 'orange shirts' helping at the event, it's impressive & shows everyone just how great a club we have & maybe encourage others to join our club.
**If you know of a vendor who might like a vendor table at the show let us know or get a contract and give it to them.
**The Hampton Inn has given us a great rate for car show participants - encourage folks to "Make It A Weekend" and spend the night at the hotel.  Members - want to make a weekend of working the Show and some Fun - call the hotel and reserve a room.
**Kevin and Steve announced that the club received a Grant in the amount of $3000 from the City of Mulvane for Showdown.  This is wonderful for the club and show - thanks to the City for the grant and the guys for making the presentation and work to receive this assistance.
**Please be asking folks if they would like to be a Trophy Sponsor for the Show - these sponsorships are $25 per award.  If members are interested in sponsoring a trophy, please contact Steve N.
**We NEED door prizes - if you know a business or someone that would be willing to donate a prize, please visit with them.  We will be handing them out during the show instead of waiting until awards at the end of the show.
**We are working on dash plaques and the trophies are almost complete - plans are moving along and we are discussing the Show T-Shirts.  We will probably use generic design for shirts, plaques and advertising this year but will address this for the 2020 show and try to have different cars on these things - perhaps use the Best of Show car for the design.
** Please encourage folks to spend the weekend at the Hotel - we have 20 rooms for Friday and for Saturday.  They are part of the Showdown block of rooms and discounted.  Getting all of the rooms reserved is great for the show, the Hotel and our chance of getting the City of Mulvane grant again for next year.
**We will have (3) cars and at least (2) bikes for the Rotunda area of the Casino like past years.  We will be deciding on these in the near future - this is great advertising for the show.
**Working on an incentive for motorcycles to enter the show - for inside and outside parking.   We are contacting motorcycle groups and focusing on trying to get these groups involved and participating with the show.
*The club still has some 2019 Cruisin Calendars.  Steve will bring them to the next breakfast and meeting if you need a cruisin book.
*Steve announced there is a new ice cream shop in Mulvane - 'Lil Deuce Scoop' on Main Street.  He had some reward cards and handed them out to members.  The owners of this new business are anxious to see the Marauders at their business.  When the weather is warmer, perhaps we can cruise there after our meetings and do a cruise in later on.  They will offer a 15% discount for members after our meetings.
*Please keep members who are experiencing health issues and those recovering from health issues in your thoughts and prayers!
*CLUB BREAKFAST -  Our February breakfast was GREAT - again about 50 members enjoyed a great breakfast & fellowship!  Club breakfasts are the 1st Saturday of the month!  The next breakfast will be Saturday March 9, 2019 - a change from the normal 1st Saturday of the month.   $8 adult-12, $5 11-5yrs & 4 and under free.   Remember we need about 30 or more to continue to have the breakfast so bring family and friends and enjoy a wonderful breakfast prepared by the Ladies Auxilliary.  We are thrilled to be able to have this breakfast event at the American Legion - food is wonderful & we can relax & enjoy fellowship with one another.  Once again Bob Barr has volunteered to organize some garage crawls after the breakfasts.  If you are willing to open your garage, please contact him or an officer so we can get this event organized & scheduled.  Watch the newsletter & announcements for details.
