“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
MARCH 2018

~HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY  MARAUDERS & GO SHOCKERS, WILDCATS & JAYHAWKS!!!!!
~Meeting was held Thursday, 3/15/18 and called to order at 6:30PM by Vice-President Max Ayers in absence of President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion. Thank you to Diana and Team for a great dinner that was provided to all Marauders members at no charge.   We appreciate it and the hospitality at the American Legion.  This is a great partnership and the club is grateful to be part of the Post #136 family.
~45 officers, members & guests attended the meeting. New member Tom Leonard, his wife and granddaughter from Augusta  were introduced to the club.  Welcome and we look forward to getting to know you.
~No additions or corrections from the February meeting minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid & several deposits.  No outstanding bills.  Steve reminded members that the club had applied for the Transient Guest Tax Grant for Showdown with the City of Mulvane and was granted $3500 which will help with costs for putting on the show.  Our balance is sitting in a good position as Showdown approaches.
~We have (2) of the large metal Marauders signs left - if you are interested in one, please contact Steve Nichols at 670-0240.  They are $30 each !
~Steve advised the club that our we had about 30+ members, guests & Lelgion folks at the monthly breakfast on March 3, 2018.

Our LAST breakfast will be Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the American Legion from 8:30-10:00AM.  We will resume in the fall after car show season.
~Members were reminded of upcoming events including:
3/16 & 3/17 - Kansas Sunflower Swap meet at Century II -- Friday, 8am-6pm and Saturday, 8am-4pm.
3/16 - Mulvane O'Reilly's Grand Opening
4/7 - Breakfast at the American Legion
4/7 - Oxford Show, NSRA Appreciation Day in Peck, Tulip Time in Belle Plaine
Make a day of it on April 7 - come to breakfast at the Legion and then attend a show.  IF you plan on going to one of these 4/7 events, please take Showdown flyers and pass them out for us.   Call Steve for flyers.  Thanks for helping make Showdown a huge success!   It takes all of us to have a great show!
~The next meeting will be Thursday, 4/19/18 at the Kansas Star Casino Arena!!

~The Show is listed on KEYN's Cruisin Calendar and Mike Berry will begin listing it in the WOW section of the Eagle.
~The Showdown Committee will be meeting weekly.  We appreciate your participation & willingness to help out.  If you have questions - please contact any officer or Team Captain and they will be glad to help you.

~We are starting to get some good sponsorship but can use more.  AND - we need a few GREAT give away prizes.
~Team captains reported for their committees - we can always use alternates just in case someone cannot make it day of the show.
~TEAM CAPTAINS & VOLUNTEERS -- Please check and make sure you have your ORANGE VOLUNTEER SHIRT FROM LAST YEAR!   THE SHIRTS ARE THE SAME SO WE TRUST YOU STILL HAVE THEM.   CHECK THE BOTTOM OF YOUR T-SHIRT STACK TO ENSURE YOU HAVE ONE.
***IF NOT, PLEASE LET CHERYL KNOW AS WE WILL BE GIVING THE SHIRT LIST TO KEVIN ASAP - THE SHIRTS WILL BE HANDED OUT AT THE APRIL MEETING TO ALL THOSE WHO "ORDERED" THEM. WE WILL NOT BE MAKING A LOT OF EXTRAS -- AND THOSE MEMBERS THAT PRE-ORDERED THEIR SHIRT WILL RECEIVE THEIR SHIRT FIRST.  NOW IS THE TIME TO LET US KNOW!!!  Thanks for your help with that request!!
~SPECIAL NOTE - IF YOU KNOW A GROUP OR CLUB THAT WOULD LIKE TO ENTER THE SHOW - PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION - IF THEY MAIL THEIR APPLICATIONS/CHECKS TOGETHER & HAVE AT LEAST "10" IN THE GROUP WE WILL DISCOUNT THE ENTRY BY $5 - INSIDE WOULD BE ONLY $25 & OUTSIDE PARKING WOULD BE ONLY $15. SPREAD THE WORD AS THIS COULD BE A FUN OUTING FOR THE GROUP OR CLUB!
~We have flyers - there are a few other shows between now & Showdown - IF you are attending one of them, please take flyers and share with those at that show.  This is still one of the best ways to get the word out especially this year with date change for the show.
****LET US KNOW ASAP IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT SHOWDOWN!   WE ARE HERE TO HELP & ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AND/OR CONCERNS!
~THANKS TO THE GUNTERS & ED JOHNSON FOR BRINGING IN GIVE AWAY ITEMS!

~A club donation to the American Legion was discussed - the donation would be to help purchase LED bulbs for the building.  This would help with their lighting expense each month - Kevin and Chuck Downey have been visiting with the Legion about this project.  We will continue to talk to them and get some idea of the expense and what we might be able to do to help out with this project.  We will discuss this donation further at a future meeting.

~SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT --  AS YOU --  WE DID NOT DO A 2018 CALENDAR.
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL REQUESTS FOR THEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY TIME GOT AWAY FROM US AND WE DID NOT DO THE CALENDAR FOR 2018!  HOWEVER - WE ARE PLANNING ON DOING ONE FOR 2019!!   IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP WITH THIS PROJECT - PLEASE CONTACT AN OFFICER.  WE WOULD LOVE IT IF A COUPLE OF MEMBERS WOULD TEAM UP AND CO-CAPTAIN THIS PROJECT.  WE WILL HELP YOU AS WELL.   ONCE THE PICTURES ARE DONE AND AD INFORMATION RECEIVED, STEVE CAN GET IT TO ENVISION FOR PRINTING.  If we start now and shortly after Showdown in the Valley in April, we should have no problem meeting the October deadline for printing. If you would be willing to call the advertisers from the last calendar, we would also appreciate that.  WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU - WE NEED ALL MEMBERS TO MAKE THESE PROJECTS & EVENTS SUCCESSFUL.
Full page ad for calendar is $150 and 1/2 page is $75 - two businesses can go together and purchase an ad for a specific month.  We can accomodate specific months as long as we can - first come first serve!!  We will discuss further at future meetings.

***Keeping with our tradition of presenting the Ken Cummings Memorial Award to an outstanding club member/s who have gone far and above the "call of duty" for the club in many & various ways ---- this year's award was presented to Richard and Robin Gunter!
This couple does so much to further the mission and vision of the club & are great ambassadors for the Marauders. Not only do they do all this for the Marauders but also for the annual Kruz'n for Kids Charity Car Cruise as well.  CONGRATULATIONS RICHARD & ROBIIN - WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO & IT DOES NOT GO UNNOTICED!  WE TRULY APPRECIATE YOU!!!

~IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER THAT HAS SAID THEY ARE NOT GETTING NEWSLETTERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR EMAILS...PLEASE HAVE THEM CONTACT US!   IN ORDER TO KEEP MEMBERS UP-TO-DATE ON CLUB BUSINESS AND EVENTS, WE NEED TO HAVE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESSES.   IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER WHO DOES NOT HAVE EMAIL, PLEASE TRY TO "BUDDY" WITH THAT MEMBER & HELP KEEP THEM INFORMED ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON.  THANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS REQUEST!!
~2018 IS THE CLUB'S 60TH BIRTHDAY - 1958-2018 - "60 YEARS & STILL CRUISIIN"!!  At the meeting Doug Horstman asked if the 60 year theme could be carried into Showdown in the Valley like we did at the Cars for Charity Show.  Great thought - if you have other ideas, please let us know.   We could perhaps display our new banner that we had printed for Cars for Charity.  Let us hear from you!!!

~With their upcoming Grand Opening on 3/16/18, O'Reilly's Mulvane sent a box of Promo Items to club members.
Thank you O'Reilly's - we appreciate the "goodies"!!

"ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*While shopping for vacation clothes, a husband and wife passed a display of bathing suits.  It had been years since she had even considered buying a swimsuit, so she asked her husband's advice.
"What do you think?" she asked.  "Should I get a bikini or an all-in-one?"
"Better get a bikini,"  he replied.  You'd never get in all in one!!"
The husband is still in the hospital in intensive care !!!!!

* I hate it when I am singing a song on the radio and the artist gets the words all wrong!!!

*Thought for the day -  If you cannot do great things - do small things in a great way!!
