“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
FEBRUARY 2018

~HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY MARAUDERS!!!!
~Meeting was held Thursday, 2/15/18 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion. Thank you to Max Ayers and Steve Nichols for taking minutes in absence of secretary Cheryl Boyes.
~30 officers, members & guests attended the meeting. And good to see faces we haven't seen for a while. Also, please welcome new members Fred & Cleone Stewart of Wichita and their 1939 Buick Coupe, 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1957 Chevy Pick-up and 1969 super modified vintage race car.  WELCOME TO THE CLUB and we look forward to getting to know you!
~No additions or corrections from the January meeting minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid & several deposits.  No outstanding bills.  Steve advised members that the club had applied for the Transient Guest Tax Grant for Showdown with the City of Mulvane and was granted $3500 which will help with costs for putting on the show.
~We have (2) of the large metal Marauders signs left - if you are interested in one, please contact Steve Nichols at 670-0240.  They are $30 each !
~Steve reminded the club that our next monthly breakfast at the American Legion will be March 3, 2018.  Breakfast is served by Diane and the Ladies Auxiliary beginning at 8:30AM until 10AM - $8 for adults, 10 & under $5 and children under 3 eat free.  We had about 35 at the January breakfast.  Remember we need 40+ members, friends & family to attend to keep this great activity going.  Great time to share a meal and fellowship with one another.  We certainly don't want to lose this opportunity as it has been wonderful to have breakfast at the Legion and it helps them as well. We would love to see a few more members at the next one!
Bring friends, family or a new member - dues are now pro-rated and only $15.00 right now.
~REMINDER - the "belated" Christmas Party and dinner will be February 25, 2018!   It will be a Mexican theme dinner and Potluck Desserts provided by the members.  We know that the party is way after the holidays but it will still be fun and another opportunity to share a meal and time with one another.  We will  do the white elephant exchange however, if you do not want to participate in the gift exchange you can still enjoy dinner & visit with your fellow members.
~Members were reminded of upcoming events including:
2/22 - Lunch at Bumper to Bumper-Garnett Auto Supply in Derby, 2/25 - Club Holiday Dinner at the American Legion, 3/3 - Club Breakfast at 8:30AM at the American Legion (this may be the last one of the season so please make a point to be there & support this great event),  3/15 - Club meeting at the American Legion, 3/16 & 3/17 - Kansas Sunflower Swap meet at Century II -- Friday, 8am-6pm and Saturday, 8am-4pm.
~The next meeting will be Thursday, 3/15/18 at the Mulvane American Legion.

NEW BUSINESS
~MARK YOUR CALENDARS & SAVE THE DATE - SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY WILL BE SATURDAY - APRIL 21, 2018.
We need vendors and sponsors who might be willing to get involved with the show and help us out.  We have sponsor forms, trophy forms and entry registrations!  If you need forms, please contact Steve Nichols.   Remember - TROPHY SPONSORSHIP IS ONLY $25.  It would be nice if some of our members would consider being a trophy sponsor.
~The Show is listed on KEYN's Cruisin Calendar and Mike Berry will begin listing it in the WOW section of the Eagle.
~The Showdown Committee is currently meeting monthly however as the show approaches, committee meetings will be weekly.    Captains have volunteered for all of the teams.  In order for this to be successful we need all members to volunteer for at least one job.  We appreciate your participation & willingness to help out.  If you have questions - please contact any officer and they will be glad to help you.
*Inside Parking/Vendor Booths:  Captain - Steve Nichols
*Merchandise :  Captain - Cheryl Boyes
*Outside Parking/Gates - Captain - Bob Moorhouse

*Raffle Items - Captains - Richard & Robin Gunter
CALL A CAPTAIN AND SEE IF THEY NEED HELP OR ALTERNATES!!!
~If you know of someone that would like to be a vendor, let's make contact with them and get them signed up.  Vendor space is $100.  AND - we would love to have a MAJOR SHOW SPONSOR - let us know if you have ideas and we will be glad to make the contact!!  It doesn't have to be a car related business - ANY company or business could be a major donor and sponsor for our show.  Great PR and advertising for them.   Put on those thinking caps & lets make this the BEST show yet.
~We are starting to get some good sponsorship but can use more.  AND - we need a few GREAT give away prizes.   Please
be thinking about this as well - we want this to be a great and memorable show.
~The committee will continue to meet and make plans for the show.  If you have thoughts, ideas or suggestions, please attend a planning meeting or contact an officer.  AND NOW IS THE TIME TO STEP UP AND BE A VOLUNTEER.
~SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT --  AS YOU KNOW --  WE DID NOT DO A 2018 CALENDAR.   WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL REQUESTS FOR THEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY TIME GOT AWAY FROM US AND WE DID NOT DO THE CALENDAR FOR 2018!  HOWEVER - WE ARE PLANNING ON DOING ONE FOR 2019!!   IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP WITH THIS PROJECT - PLEASE CONTACT AN OFFICER.  WE WOULD LOVE IT IF A COUPLE OF MEMBERS WOULD TEAM UP AND CO-CAPTAIN THIS PROJECT.  WE WILL HELP YOU AS WELL.   ONCE THE PICTURES ARE DONE AND AD INFORMATION RECEIVED, STEVE CAN GET IT TO ENVISION FOR PRINTING.  If we start now and shortly after Showdown in the Valley in April, we should have no problem meeting the October deadline for printing. If you would be willing to call the advertisers from the last calendar, we would also appreciate that.  WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU - WE NEED ALL MEMBERS TO MAKE THESE PROJECTS & EVENTS SUCCESSFUL.
Full page ad for calendar is $150 and 1/2 page is $75 - two businesses can go together and purchase an ad for a specific month.  We can accomodate specific months as long as we can - first come first serve!!  We will discuss further at future meetings.
~IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER THAT HAS SAID THEY ARE NOT GETTING NEWSLETTERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR EMAILS...PLEASE HAVE THEM CONTACT US!   IN ORDER TO KEEP MEMBERS UP-TO-DATE ON CLUB BUSINESS AND EVENTS, WE NEED TO HAVE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESSES.   IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER WHO DOES NOT HAVE EMAIL, PLEASE TRY TO "BUDDY" WITH THAT MEMBER & HELP KEEP THEM INFORMED ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON.  THANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS REQUEST!!
~2018 IS THE CLUB'S 60TH BIRTHDAY - 1958-2018 - "60 YEARS & STILL CRUISIIN"!!  At the meeting Doug Horstman asked if the 60 year theme could be carried into Showdown in the Valley like we did at the Cars for Charity Show.  Great thought - if you have other ideas, please let us know.   We could perhaps display our new banner that we had printed for Cars for Charity.  Let us hear from you!!!

~Please continue to check the website club events section for upcoming events & club activities.  If you need an event posted, please contact Cheryl or Steve.

~If there is something you would like to see in the newsletter or have ideas for outings and/or events - please let us hear from you!

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned.

~NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY, 3/15/18, AT 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion.
*We need members to show up as we will be discussing "Showdown in the Valley".  The Ladies Auxillary is planning on serving dinner - as soon as know what they are serving we will let you know.

~UPDATE 1 - We had a great time at the Cars for Charity Show in January & enjoyed displaying our 60 years & still cruisin banner along with our kool shirts that were worn on Saturday of the show.   Thanks to the Gunters for helping us set up a table and monitor that had a slide show of Marauders cars/events going throughout the show.  We also had Showdown entries and other information on the table.  Thanks to Max Ayers for the great trivia signs/arrows that helped promote our 60th birthday.  Several members won awards - however the club did not place in the "club" category but we are still proud of our long legacy in the area & the support we give to those in need.

~UPDATE 2 - Over 50 members, family & friends enjoyed a wonderful Mexican meal at the club dinner/party held on Sunday, February 25 at the American Legion.  As usual Diane and her team did an outstanding job of preparing & serving the food - a great big thank you to her and her team.   Next time you are at the American Legion, be sure to thank her in person.  It's never too late or too early and the gift exchange was a big hit as usual - always good to have a way to part with some of those 'treasures' sitting in your house or garage!!!!   We had fun with the 50-50 pot and raffled off one of the large Marauders signs.  We also had a drawing and 5 lucky members won restaurant gift cards in the amount of $50 each.  And Thank You members for the GREAT POTLUCK DESSERTS - this is always a hit and Sunday was no exception.  Thank you for participating and we look forward to our next club dinner!!
