“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
JANUARY 2018

~HAPPY NEW YEAR MARAUDERS - HOPE YOU ARE READY FOR ANOTHER "GREAT & GIVING" YEAR!!!!!
~Meeting was held Thursday, 1/11/18 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.
~25 officers, members & guests attended the December meeting.  It was a very cold night with a dusting of snow & some ice so we were grateful for all those who were able to get out and attend the meeting.
~No additions or corrections from the December meeting minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid & deposits  - all bills paid to date.  Two recent bills have been paid including the bill for shirts for participants of the Cars for Charity Show.
~Kevin announced that Doyle Phillips had volunteered to make new end cap stanchions for the club.  These will be a bit of a different end cap style & and a bit lighter weight.  The club will pay for materials and Doyle will volunteer his time to make them.
~In the past years, the club has agreed to donate $500 to the Cars for Charity Show to assist them with getting the ARC folks to the show.  A motion was made by Chuck Downey and seconded by Bob Barr that we continue that same donation for the 2018 show.  Kevin reminded the club that some of the Cars for Charity members reciprocate by helping the club with our show & our calendar project.
~The special shirts for Cars for Charity entries were available for pick up at the end of the meeting.  All others will be taken to the show or members can contact Cheryl for pick up.  All entries received one (1) shirt per entry.
~Those entering the show should have received their entry information by now.  Members will gather in the parking lot outside the overhead door of Expo Hall about 11-11:30AM on Thursday, 1/18/18 for 12:30PM move in.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Cheryl.  All of the stanchions, rope, signs and banners will be at the show - if everyone can assist with the drive on stanchions and setting the area, we can fine tune it on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
~We have 2 of the large Marauder Metal Logo signs.  They are $30 each.  If you want one, let Steve Nichols know ASAP. It is a first come first serve.
~Please continue to check the website club events section - for upcoming car events & club activities. If you need an event posted, please contact Cheryl or Steve.
~Steve reminded the club that our next monthly breakfast at the American Legion will be February 3, 2018.  Breakfast is served by Diane and the Ladies Auxiliary beginning at 8:30AM until 10AM - $8 for adults, 10 & under $5 and children under 3 eat free.  We had about 35 at the January breakfast.  Remember we need 40+ members, friends & family to attend to keep this great activity going.  Great time to share a meal and fellowship with one another.  We certainly don't want to lose this opportunity as it has been wonderful to have breakfast at the Legion and it helps them as well. We would love to see a few more members at the next one!
~REMINDER - the "belated" Christmas Party and dinner will be February 25, 2018!   It will be a Mexican theme dinner and Potluck Desserts provided by the members.  We know that is way after the holidays but it will still be fun and another opportunity to share a meal and time with one another.  We will still do the white elephant exchange.  Watch the announcemenmts for reminders.
~The next meeting will be Thursday, 2/15/18 at the Mulvane American Legion.

NEW BUSINESS
~MARK YOUR CALENDARS & SAVE THE DATE - SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY WILL BE SATURDAY - APRIL 21, 2018.  Be thinking about vendors and sponsors who might be willing to get involved with the show and help us out.  We will have sponsor forms, trophy forms and entry registrations in the near future.  Remember - TROPHY SPONSORSHIP IS ONLY $25.  It would be nice if some of our members would consider being a trophy sponsor.
~The Show is listed on KEYN's Cruisin Calendar and Mike Berry will begin listing it in the WOW section of the Eagle.
~The Showdown Committee met on 1/9/18 and plans are moving along.  Captains have volunteered for all of the teams - please check the announcement that Steve recently sent out giving those captains' names and phone numbers.  In order for this to be successful we need all members to volunteer for at least one job.  We appreciate your participation & willingness to help out.  If you have questions - please contact any officer and they will be glad to help you.
~There is a Showdown in the Valley ad in the 2018 Cruisin' Calendar.   Kevin will have calendars at the t-shirt booth at Cars for Charity if you would like to have one!!
~We will have flyers ready & available before the Cars For Charity Show and the next big Swap Meet in March at Century II.  We need major prize donations.  Be thinking about this & asking anyone who might be interested in helping us so we in turn can help our communities.
~If you know of someone that would like to be a vendor, let's make contact with them and get them signed up.  Vendor space is $100.  AND - we would love to have a MAJOR SHOW SPONSOR - let us know if you have ideas and we will be glad to make the contact!!  It doesn't have to be a car related business - ANY company or business could be a major donor and sponsor for our show.  Great PR and advertising for them.   Put on those thinking caps and lets get started.
~We are starting to get some good sponsorship but can use more.  AND - we need a few GREAT give away prizes.   Please
be thinking about this as well - we want this to be a great and memorable show.
~The committee will continue to meet and make plans for the show.  If you have thoughts, ideas or suggestions, please attend a planning meeting or contact an officer.  AND NOW IS THE TIME TO STEP UP AND BE A VOLUNTEER.   Here is your chance and opportunity to get involved.
~Jack Marinelli placed an order for the metal Marauders license tags.  He now has the signs.  If you requested a plate, now is the time to get it - they are $22.00 each and he does have a few extras.   Questions about these, please contact Jack.
~AS YOU KNOW --  WE DID NOT DO A 2018 CALENDAR.   WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL REQUESTS FOR THEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY TIME GOT AWAY FROM US AND WE DID NOT DO THE CALENDAR FOR 2018!  HOWEVER - WE ARE PLANNING ON DOING ONE FOR 2019!!   IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP WITH THIS PROJECT - PLEASE CONTACT AN OFFICER.  WE WOULD LOVE IT IF A COUPLE OF MEMBERS WOULD TEAM UP AND CO-CAPTAIN THIS PROJECT.  WE WILL HELP YOU AS WELL.   ONCE THE PICTURES ARE DONE AND AD INFORMATION RECEIVED, STEVE CAN GET IT TO ENVISION FOR PRINTING.  If we start now and shortly after Showdown in the Valley in April, we should have no problem meeting the October deadline for printing. If you would be willing to call the advertisers from the last calendar, we would also appreciate that.  WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU - WE NEED ALL MEMBERS TO MAKE THESE PROJECTS & EVENTS SUCCESSFUL.
Full page ad for calendar is $150 and 1/2 page is $75 - two businesses can go together and purchase an ad for a specific month.  We can accomodate specific months as long as we can - first come first serve!!  We will discuss further at future meetings.
~IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER THAT HAS SAID THEY ARE NOT GETTING NEWSLETTERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR EMAILS...PLEASE HAVE THEM CONTACT US!   IN ORDER TO KEEP MEMBERS UP-TO-DATE ON CLUB BUSINESS AND EVENTS, WE NEED TO HAVE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESSES.   IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER WHO DOES NOT HAVE EMAIL, PLEASE TRY TO "BUDDY" WITH THEM & HELP KEEP THEM INFORMED ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON.  THANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS REQUEST!!

~If there is something you would like to see in the newsletter or have ideas for outings and/or events - please let us hear from you!

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned at 7:00PM.

~NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY, 2/15/18, AT 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion.

"ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*A barber asked a young boy, "How would you like your hair cut, buddy?"
"Just like daddy's!!" the boy replied.
"And don't forget the round hole on the top where his head comes through, I want it just like his!"

*A bill collector came to the man's house the other day.  So he handed him a stack of old bills.

*A woman started a job as a school counselor.  One day at recess she noticed a girl standing alone on one side of a field while children played soccer at the other end.  The counselor asked if the girl was all right.  The girl said she was fine but thank you.
A few minutes later, the counselor saw the girl still standing in the same spot, still by herself.  She called out to the girl, "Would you like for me to be your friend?"  The girl hesitated, then said, "Sure!"
Feeling she was making progress, the counselor asked, "Why are you standing here all alone?"
"Because," the girl replied with great exasperation, "I'm the goalie!!!!"

*Remember .......................... If you can't convince them...............confuse them!!!!!!

*Thought for the day - Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad & doesn't like it - but when you take him for a rid in the car he sticks his head out the window & loves it!!!    Just askin' ......

*Be kind to one another and practice random acts of kindness!

*IF YOU HAVE A “CAR JOKE” (or any joke) YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE CLUB, PLEASE SEND IT TO CHERYL!   **Remember, it has to be ‘printable’!!!
