“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
SEPTEMBER  2017

~Meeting was held Thursday, 9/21/17 and called to order at 6:35PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to Diane and her team - the calzones and pasta salad were great and we appreciate all they do to provide great meals & a wonderful time to fellowship with one another!
~30 officers, members & guests attended.
~Our guests were Zach McHatton, Economic Development Director for the City of Haysville & Joni Sulanke of The Passage Salon & Boutique - they presented an event they are putting on next April in Haysville to promote & introduce the new Activity Center there.  They explained the details of their fun event & personally invited the Marauders to participate in the Car Show.  The event is "Party in the 0-6-0" and will be held Saturday April 14, 2018 from 11:00AM to 10:30PM.  It will be held on the streets around the new center and will include 4 bands, a garden for adult beverages, arts & crafts, volleyball tournaments, a fun run, food trucks, car show and a photographer at the old 'Vickers Station'.  (Max Ayers will be there bright and early I'm sure)  It is an all day festival and hopefully many club members will participate.  Watch for details as we could go together & park as a club/group.  Thank you to Zach and Joni for the personal invitation and presentation.
~No additions or corrections from the August minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid, deposits (plus dues) - all bills paid to date. Balance is sitting good after all of our donations, dinner and aniticipation of other expenses that will need to be paid and of course seed money for Showdown in the Valley 2018!
~Steve read a thank you note from the Mulvane Children's Fund and their appreciation for the recent donation to their organization that serves children in the Mulvane school system.
~Steve reminded members that DUES are currently due in the amount of $25.   Please renew your membership ASAP so we can close out membership renewal for the year.  You can pay at the meeting or mail them to Steve Nichols, Treasurer, P.O. Box 151, Mulvane KS 67110.   If you are unsure if you have paid, check it out on the website - just go to members & click on the "click here".  There are still a few members that have not paid.  If you have any questions concerning membership and/or dues please contact an officer and we will be glad to visit with you. Please let us know your intentions for membership so we can wrap up this renewal process for the year, hopefully by October.
~We still have some 2017 Showdown shirts - XL ONLY - for $5 each.  We will have them at the next meeting and would like to sell them ASAP.  We also have Marauders club t-shirts for $10 each.
~Jack Marinelli reminded club of the upcoming Car-Palooza Car Show & Chili Cook-Off at the Oxford Senior Living residence -at 3101 N. Parkdale Circle - on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 11-2PM.  Lunch will be provided to those willing to display their cars for the residents.  He will be leading a group from the Derby Walmart at 10:00AM.  They would like to have about 20-30 cars.  Road Captains are Jack and Don Heersche.
~There is a new O'Reilly's coming to Mulvane - we might have an opportunity to display some cars for their grand opening.  We will keep you posted if that is possible.
~Club Dinner - nearly 70 members, friends and family attended the Club Dinner, the food was incredible as usual, Diane and her team did an exceptional job again, there was tons of food and the desserts were outstanding. The 50/50 pot was won by Jerry Fletcher who turned around and gave it to Cheryl for Toys for Tots, way to go Jerry, you epitomize what the club is all about, the 2 metal Marauder signs were won by Ralph Henderson and Dan Boyes, congrats guys. Those of you who missed the dinner missed a great time with a lot of wonderful people. Check out the website for pictures.
~We still have the metal Marauder Signs available for $30, they are limited so its first come first served.  Contact Steve Nichols if you are interested in purchasing a sign.
~Lots of things are going on so be sure and check the website club events section - we try to post shows we constantly hear about.  If you need an event posted, please contact Cheryl or Steve.

NEW BUSINESS
~Steve advised the club that the American Legion was attempting to make some improvements at the back of their building so they might be able to host some added events - which in turn helps the Legion produce added activity & funds.  They are looking to add/improve their horseshoe pits so they can host some tournaments and do a bit of revitalizing to the building/grounds.  Because of our partnership with the American Legion & the availability we have to use their building, Steve made a motion that we donate $300 to be used for improving the back of the building and the horseshoe pits.  Motion passed and a check was donated to Phil Horner of the Legion and he is also a member of the Marauders.  FYI to the club - a few Marauders belong to Post #136.
Steve also indicated that Post #136 might want to do a car show in the future & agreed that the Marauders would assist them in doing that show.
~MARK YOUR CALENDARS & SAVE THE DATE - IT HAS BEEN DECIDED - SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY WILL BE SATURDAY - APRIL 21, 2018.  It will continue to be a 1 day show.  Be thinking about vendors and sponsors who might be willing to get involved with the show and help us out.
~We will have flyers ready & available before the Starbird-Devlin Show and the next big Swap Meet in 2018.  We need major prize donations.  Be thinking about this & asking anyone who might be interested in helping us so we in turn can help our communities.
~Hopefully weather will be more favorable especially for outdoor parking and we have talked about adding a "Swap Meet" in the fenced in area outside of the Arena.  If you would like to be involved with that part of the show & planning - we would be happy to discuss that with a member that would step up and be the "swap meet captain" & others who would entertain working on that committee.  Club member John Saindon would be willing to help give us some guidance & information on starting this new feature of the show.  This could generate added participation & funds for the club and our charities.
~The committee will continue to meet and make plans for the show.  If you have thoughts, ideas or suggestions, please attend a planning meeting or contact an officer.
~Cheryl announced that the 13th Annual Kruz'n for Kids Charity Car Cruise is Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Westway Shopping Center parking lot - Pawnee & Seneca - 1 - 3:00PM.   Bring new unwrapped toys and/or funds and experience the fun of Kruz'n for Kids knowing you are helping thousands of children in our community have a Merry Christmas and hope now & for the future.  Marauders are making a difference in the lives of so many people - your generosity does not go unnoticed!  It means more than you know - to see our club members at this event!   Thank you for all you do for the Marines, the kids & me!!
~Cheryl reminded the club that the Starbird-Devlin Show is January 19-21, 2018!  Also - 2018 will be the 60th anniversary of the Mulvane Marauders - which was established in 1958!   We had a great turnout & fun time when we celebrated our 50th at the Starbird Show - let's try to make a big celebration of this milestone for the Marauders and have a great turnout for the show. I think we could have a great presence there without spending a lot of money.  I have some applications - and it is probably out on the Starbird-Devlin website.  Let me know if you are interested and/or need an application.  $30 entry fee and deadline for Starbird is December 15.  Late fee after that date & the availability to enter is not good.
~Club Breakfast will begin the first of November - watch the announcements & newsletter for the exact date!!
~VETERANS DAY IS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11 - There will be a parade in downtown Wichita - car clubs are invited to participate with no entry fee.   If anyone would be interested in organizing a group to go be in the parade & being the Road Captain, let me know and I can get the appropriate entry application.   It would be great to see the Marauders recognizing & honoring Veterans on this special day.  Danny & I will be participating with the Kansas Honor Flight and the Vet-To-Vet Support Command group - so we will be there too.  Even if we don't participate - perhaps you could attend the parade and be sure to Thank A Veteran for their Service - not just on Veterans Day but EVERY day.  Thank you !!
~IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER THAT HAS SAID THEY ARE NOT GETTING NEWSLETTERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR EMAILS...PLEASE HAVE THEM CONTACT US!   IN ORDER TO KEEP MEMBERS UP-TO-DATE ON CLUB BUSINESS AND EVENTS, WE NEED TO HAVE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESSES.   THANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS REQUEST!!

~If there is something you would like to see in the newsletter or have ideas for outings and/or events - please let us hear from you!

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned.at 7:30PM.
