“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
APRIL 2017

HOPE EVERYONE HAD A BEAUTIFUL & VERY SPECIAL EASTER!!!
~Meeting was held Thursday, 4/20//17 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to the ladies of the Legion for another fun dinner - and great fellowship prior to the meeting.
~There were about 45 offcers and members.  We welcomed one guest to our meeting - WC Thurman from Belle Plaine.
~No additions or corrections from the March minutes per secretary Cheryl Boyes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report and reported that he had made two deposits along with purchasing stamps to mail entries to last year's participants. Disbursements were made for trophies & clock parts for the raffle prizes.  No other outstanding bills at this time.  Funds have already been set aside for the park sign and will be paid when the stone is set in the park.
~We still have calendars to sell and/or hand out. IF you have not picked up your calendars please make arrangements to do so as soon as possible by contacting Steve.  And if you would like additional copies, please let us know!  Remember, the funds and profits from the calendars allows us to help that many more charities and folks.
~Kevin & Cheryl announced some upcoming events including events at the American Legion, Clearwater Show on 5/13, Cedar Pointe Baptist Church Show N Shine on 5/13.  Erin Is Hope Show has been postponed from Friday 5/5/17 because of road construction in front of their building/lot.  The new date is 9/29/17!
~Fred Cook also announced there would be a July 4 parade once again in Mulvane.  Line up begins at 11:30AM and the parade starts at noon.
~Lots of things are starting to happen so be sure and check the website club events section - we try to post shows we constantly hear about.  If you need an event posted, please contact Cheryl or Steve.
~Kevin advised that the new commander for American Legion Post #136 is Steve Coberly.  Be sure to continue to suppor the Legion in any way you can - we truly appreciate all they have provided for us.  It is a great relationship and we appreciate them.

NEW BUSINESS
~SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY #19 UPDATE:
~Showdown is scheduled for Saturday, 6/17/17 at the Kansas Star Casino with move in for all vendors and inside cars on Friday, 6/16/17.
~The Showdown committee groups continue to meet and get organized for the show.
~We recently found out that the Kansas Star Casino will be running radio & TV ads for the show per Sonya Jackson.
~If any of you have friends or business associates that would consider a sponsorship donation, please visit with Steve Nichols and he can provide a list of the sponsorship levels.  Any level sponsorship would be great & if you don't want to visit with the contact, let us know and Steve will make the contact.
~Central will not be donating a lift this year - however, they are donating a $400 jack.
~Discount Tire will again be donating a $500 gift certificate for tires.
~We also have secured a grill and cooker for prizes. IF anyone has a contact for maybe a nice TV - that would be great.  Let us know if you have thoughts or ideas on securing a TV for our prizes for the participants.
~This year we will have (5) clocks - Ford, Chevy, Pontiac, Mopar & Coke and (5) lighted signs - WSU, KU, KSU, CHIEFS & ROYALS -- that will be raffled!  Everyone, including Marauders, are eligible to purchase raffle tickets for these items.  If the club likes these, we may take orders so you can buy one at a later date.
~Steve shared two samples of raffle prizes - a Chevy clock and the Chiefs lighted sign.  THEY ARE FANTASTIC AND SHOULD BE A GREAT HIT AT THE SHOW.
~Steve also had samples of the trophies and the large ones for the specialty awards.   These are the Marauders logo and are great awards.  He also mentioned that we might be able to order these for members - price to be determined - and probably won't happen until the first of the new school year in August.  There are only a couple/three weeks of school remaining.
~Steve asked for volunteers to paint the "flame" class awards.  He has assembled the clock prizes.   Thanks to Ron Cummings, Don Heersche and Larry Taylor for volunteering to help with painting the awards.  We have 73 trophies in addition to the major specialty awards.
~It was discussed and agreed that after what we pay the school for the materials for the trophies we will once again do something special for the class.  Last year we purchased 4 grinders for them - Steve will visit with the teacher to see what they could use.
~REMEMBER - NO MARAUDERS ARE ELIGILBE FOR THE SHOW/AWARDS - AS USUAL ALL CLUB MEMBERS CAN PARK IN THE ENCLOSED AREA AT THE SOUTH END OF THE ARENA.
~The raffle part of the show will help raise revenue and be in place of the traditional door prizes.  It is harder and harder to get donations for door prizes.  Each participant will be issued a ticket for some of the prizes - and only participants will be eligible for those.   Then some of the prizes will be available for participants and spectators to purchase to increase revenues.
~The door prize folks from last year will man the 'alternate' give aways for this year. Only participants will be eligible for the jack, tire certificate and any other 'big' item we might secure.
~We still need shirt sponsors (participants will again get a t-shirt with their entry), trophy sponsors, corporate sponsors and donations.
~If you know of someone who might consider helping the show and you would like for the officers to visit with them, please let us know ASAP!!   Be thinking about this folks - there are a lot of us who know a lot of people who would be willing to help or donate to this great charity show.
HERE ARE THE TEAM CAPTAINS - BUT THEY NEED HELP!!!

~The registration form is on the website, however if you know of someone that needs one, please let us know.
~Flyers/registration forms will be at Morgan Buleigh and a few other places around town including Bumper to Bumper/Garnett Auto Supply stores.
~We also need to get the flyers available and the willingness of everyone to saturate the upcoming car shows to advertise our show and get the word out ASAP.  People won't come if they don't know about it.   Wear your bright orange Volunteer t-shirt, go to a show and pass out flyers!!!!
~We have about 15 vendor booths to date.  They are only $100 this year so share that with everyone you know who would consider purchasing booth space.
~LET US KNOW WHAT SHOW YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEND AND BE WILLING TO TAKE FLYERS TO PASS OUT.  THIS IS OUR BEST MEANS OF ADVERTISING WITH THE CAR FOLKS - DOESN'T TAKE LONG AND IS BENEFICIAL FOR THE CLUB AND SHOW.   WE WILL GET FLYERS TO YOU!!!
~Dash plaques need to be decided as well along with the artwork.
~WE WILL BE PROVIDING FREE WATER AGAIN THIS YEAR TO OUR PARTICIPANTS - ESPECIALLY THOSE OUTSIDE.
THE NEXT TIME YOU GO SHOPPING, PICK UP A CASE & BRING TO THE JUNE MEETING AT THE CASINO!!!

~Alefs Harley Davidson has been sold and is now Freedom Road Cycles & Service.  We are visiting with them about their participation & the bike community to increase participation from them.  We would like to have flyers available there as well.
~Don Heersche, Steve Dale and Larry Lee have volunteered to display their car, truck and bike in the foyer of the Casino to advertise the show as in years past.
~NOW IS THE TIME TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR & SAVE THE DATE AND BE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP THE CLUB WITH THIS GREAT SHOW AND FUNDRAISER!!
~Entry fees are $30 - inside parking and $20 - outside parking.

~Kevin announced that several folks had sponsored a NBC class baseball team called the "Patriots".  These are college age kids that are continuing to play ball during the summer.  The players are being hosted by about 30 families.  They will have approximately 22 home games.  The team is asking for sponsorship.  After discussion, Jack Marinelli made a motion that the Marauders sponsor a night for the team in the amount of $100.   Seconded by Bob Barr, motion passed.  Kevin will check on a specific night and perhaps we can take cars and make a fun night.  Will try to do this prior to Showdown.  Games will be played at the Mulvane Sports Compex.
