“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
MARCH 2017

Sorry this is a bit tardy - just spaced out getting it out!!!
~Meeting was held Thursday, 316/17 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to the ladies of the Legion for another fun dinner - and great fellowship prior to the meeting.
~There were about 40 offcers, members and guests were present.
~No additions or corrections from the February minutes per secretary Cheryl Boyes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report and advised the cllub that the club insurance would be due in the near future.  Our premium has gone up significantly and we will be looking at a couple of other bids to see if we can save some money.  No other outstanding bills at this time and Steve will keep the club advised on the status of the insurance.  Funds have already been set aside for the park sign and will be paid when the stone is set in the park.
~We still have calendars to sell and/or hand out.   IF you have not picked up your calendars please make arrangements to do so as soon as possible by contacting Steve.  And if you would like additional copies, please let us know!  Remember, the funds and profits from the calendars allows us to help that many more charities and folks.

NEW BUSINESS
~The April 1 club breakfast will be the last one for now since car show season is upon us.   We will resume in the fall and I know we all look forward to them.   Thanks to everyone who has participated and made these such a great success - not only for the club but for the the ladies of the American Legion.  We appreciate Diane and her crew for great food, Larry Lee and those omelets and the American Legion for providing a wonderful place for us to gather for breakfast, dinners, meetings and whatever else we need.
SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY #19:
~Showdown is scheduled for Saturday, 6/17/17 at the Kansas Star Casino with move in for all vendors and inside cars on Friday, 6/16/17.
~The Showdown committee groups have met a couple times to get organized for the show.
~Priority Motors has gone out of business so we will not have that sponsorship this year.  The last couple of years they have donated about $2000.  That is a major sponsorship - if any of you have friends or business associates that would consider a sponsorship donation, please visit with Steve Nichols and he can provide a list of the sponsorship levels.  Doesn't have to be that much but it would be wonderful to make up that loss of sponsorship!
~Central will not be donating a lift this year - however, they are donating a $400 jack.  Again - if you know of anyone that would consider donating a "big" gift we can use, please let us know.
~Discount Tire will again be donating a $500 gift certificate for tires.
~Steve announced that the Mulvane High school metals class will be doing our trophies and they can make some nice metal bases for clocks.  We can then purchase the clock parts and put together for 'raffle' prizes at the show.  We would like to do at least 10 of these.
~'Cars for Charity' will be in charge of our 'raffle' and help us with that part of the show.
~The raffle part of the show will help raise revenue and be in place of the traditional door prizes.  It is harder and harder to get donations for door prizes.  Each participant will be issued a ticket for some of the prizes - and only participants will be eligible for those.   Then some of the prizes will be available for participants and spectators to purchase to increase revenues.
~The door prize folks from last year will man the 'alternate' give aways for this year. Only participants will be eligible for the jack, tire certificate and any other 'big' item we might secure.
~Steve N has visited with Bumper to Bumper and they will assist us with a sponsorship.
~We need shirt sponsors (participants will again get a t-shirt with their entry), trophy sponsors, corporate sponsors and donations.
~If you know of someone who might consider helping the show and you would like for the officers to visit with them, please let us know ASAP!!   Be thinking about this folks - there are a lot of us who know a lot of people who would be willing to help or donate to this great charity show.
~We could use a big screen TV, nice Grill, etc.
~PLEASE BE THINKING ABOUT VOLUNTEERING FOR ONE OF THESE COMMITTEES.   IT IS A MOST WORTHWHILE EVENT & WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN WORKING TOGETHER:
THESE ARE THE TEAM CAPTAINS TO DATE - BUT THEY NEED HELP!!!
Sponsorship -
Vendor Booth - Steve Nichols
Raffle Prizes - Richard & Robin Gunter & Ron Stalbaum
Trash - Steve Dale
Parking - Outdoor - Bob Moorhouse
Water - Bob Moorhouse
Merchandise - Cheryl Boyes

~The registration form should be on the website, however if you know of someone that needs one, please let us know.
~Flyers/registration forms will be at Morgan Buleigh and a few other places around town including Bumper to Bumper/Garnett Auto Supply stores.
~We also need to get the flyers available and the willingness of everyone to saturate the upcoming car shows to advertise our show and get the word out ASAP.  People won't come if they don't know about it.   Wear your bright orange Volunteer t-shirt, go to a show and pass out flyers!!!!
~We have about 15 vendor booths to date.  They are only $100 this year so share that with everyone you know who would consider purchasing booth space.
~Mulvane High School metals class is doing the trophies - class trophies will be same as last year painted a different color and the specific trophies will be wall mount with the Marauders logo.  (10) of them will be 10X17 and (2) will be 12X19.  We will be having a few get togethers to assemble several of our items - so be ready and willing to help us out!
~LET US KNOW WHAT SHOW YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEND AND BE WILLING TO TAKE FLYERS TO PASS OUT.  THIS IS OUR BEST MEANS OF ADVERTISING WITH THE CAR FOLKS - DOESN'T TAKE LONG AND IS BENEFICIAL FOR THE CLUB AND SHOW.   WE WILL GET FLYERS TO YOU!!!
~Dash plaques need to be decided as well.
~WE WILL BE PROVIDING FREE WATER AGAIN THIS YEAR TO OUR PARTICIPANTS - ESPECIALLY THOSE OUTSIDE.
THE NEXT TIME YOU GO SHOPPING, PICK UP A CASE & BRING TO THE JUNE MEETING AT THE CASINO!!!

~Our June meeting will be bumped to the week prior to the show to allow us time for to prepare for & take care of last minute tasks and be at the Casino.
~Alefs Harley Davidson has been sold and is now Freedom Road Cycles & Service.  We are visiting with them about their participation & the bike community to increase participation from them.  We would like to have flyers available there as well.
~Don Heersche, Steve Dale and Larry Lee have volunteered to display their car, truck and bike in the foyer of the Casino to advertise the show as in years past.
~NOW IS THE TIME TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR & SAVE THE DATE AND BE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP THE CLUB WITH THIS GREAT SHOW AND FUNDRAISER!!
~Entry fees are $30 - inside parking and $20 - outside parking.
~PLEASE contact Kevin, Max, Steve or Cheryl if you are willing to chair one of the committees referenced above or if you have ideas for the show.   Thank you - we appreciate all of you !!
~Kevin shared an idea for the club to consider.  Kevin's brother suggested we take an old US Postal Service Mail Box and donate it to the Mulvane American Legion to be anchored in front of the Legion as an "old/torn/used flag deposit box"  It has keys so it can be secured.  Kevin's brother has the box & Greg Mistretta has offered to paint it with no labor cost - only the cost of the paint.  It was suggested that if we continue with this project, we could donate it on July 4.
However, Harry Funke suggested that we table this suggestion/project until after the show to see how we stand on funds.  Club is in favor of possibly moving forward after the show!  It is a great idea and the Marauders logo would be on the back of the box.
