“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
FEBRUARY 2017

HAPPY BELATED VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!
~Meeting was held Thursday, 2/16/17 and called to order at 6:30PM by Vice-President Max Ayers, in absence of President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to the ladies of the Legion for another fun dinner - and great fellowship prior to the meeting.
~35 officers, members and guests were present.
~No additions or corrections from the December minutes per Cheryl Boyes.  No meeting in January due to the Starbird-Devlin Car Show.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report and advised the club that he had made a payment to Kasey McDowell, the club webmaster. Outstanding expense is the $500 for the rock for the park in Mulvane.  No other outstanding bills at this time.
~We still have calendars to sell and/or hand out.   IF you have not picked up your calendars please make arrangements to do so as soon as possible by contacting Steve.  And if you would like additional copies, please let us know!  Remember, the funds and profits from the calendars allows us to help that many more charities and folks.
~The February breakfast was held on February 11 - about 30 members attended.  We would like to have at least 40 in attendance at these breakfasts to ensure we are able to make this worth the time and effort for the Legion folks who prepare for us.  Next breakfast will be Saturday, March 4 from 8:30AM to 10:00AM.  Another Garage Crawl will take place per Bob Barr.  The March activity will be at the home of Don Heersche and anyone else willing to open their garage for the club members.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Bob Barr or any officer.  The February crawl included the shops of Don Heerchse (farm shop), Ralph Henderson and Steve Nichols.
~Devlin-Starbird Car Show Update:
Everyone had a good time at the 2017 Starbird-Devlin Car Show.  There were 12 members parked/stanchioned together - and even though we had fewer cars than past years, we looked good and displayed two of our banners so folks would know what club we represent.  The club took second place for club display and the Thunderbird Club took first place.  See "Winners Circle" for those taking home awards from the show.
I know it's early - so please don't throw things or get too excited - but next year - 2018 - the Marauders will be celebrating their 60th anniversay (1958-2018) and it would be great to have a special display, several members participating and maybe even special shirts to celebrate this milestone for the club.  We don't have to spend a lot of money to have a great display and big "party" for our club and their 60 years of promoting our hobby and serving our community. This year's weather was great and it was a fun weekend.
~We had a great belated Holiday Dinner and White Elephant Exchange on Sunday, 1/29/17 at 1PM at the American Legion.  The ladies of the Legion provided a delicious Italian dinner and of course the members provided a wonderful dessert potluck for everyone to enjoy.  There were lots of "treasures" that were exchanged - not sure everyone went home with what they needed or wanted - but it was fun and everyone had a great time even though it was not before the holidays.  Save those treasurers and give them to someone else next year!!!   We look forward to the next club dinner and hope all of you can join us in the future.

NEW BUSINESS
~The next club breakfast and garage crawl will be Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 8:30 - 10AM at the Mulvane American Legion.  Bring your friends and family and enjoy the fellowship and fun!
SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY #19:
~Showdown is scheduled for Saturday, 6/17/17 at the Kansas Star Casino with move in for all vendors and inside cars on Friday, 6/16/17.
~The Casino is glad to have us back so we have to do all we can to step up our game & the show so they will want to continue to host this great event for us - lots of kids, Veterans and others in the community are counting on us to help them!   Our funds from this show have assisted people, kids and Veterans in the area and the state of Kansas.   What a great thing that all of our funds are helping those that live in our communities and state.
~Last year we sold 34 vendor spaces, had 140 cars and cleared enough money to donate considerable amounts to Kansas Food Bank/Back Pack Program, Kansas Honor Flight and Toys for Tots.
~The Planning Group/Committee has not met as of this date but is going to be getting together in the next week.   We need to get the ground work laid and started wich includes chairs for the several committees to plan & execute the show.
~PLEASE BE THINKING ABOUT TAKING ONE OF THESE COMMITTEES AND VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME.   IT IS A MOST WORTHWHILE EVENT & WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN WORKING TOGETHER:
We need chairs & help for the following -
Sponsorship
Vendor Booth
Door Prizes
Trash
Parking
Water
Merchandise

~Kasey will be putting all the information on the website including the registration form.
~We also need to get the flyer created and the willingness of everyone to saturate the upcoming car shows to advertise our show and get the word out ASAP.  People won't come if they don't know about it.   Wear your bright orange Volunteer t-shirt, go to a show and pass out flyers!!!!
~We will be visiting with the Mulvane High School shop teacher about the awards - we might ask him to give us some ideas of what they could do and then bring that back to the club.   Might be nice to have awards that can be hung on the wall of a room or garage in lieu of those that sit on a shelf.
~Dash plaques need to be decided as well
~The contract with the Casino and the Hampton Inn have been signed and we will be discussing details with Sonya Jackson - our  Casino contact person.
~We need to confirm the inside and outside registration fee - last year it was $30 for inside parking and $20 for outside.  Some of the officers have already been contacted by folks wanting to pre-register for inside parking.
~NOW IS THE TIME TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR & SAVE THE DATE AND BE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP THE CLUB WITH THIS GREAT SHOW AND FUNDRAISER!!
~PLEASE contact Kevin, Max, Steve or Cheryl if you are willing to chair one of the committees referenced above or if you have ideas for the show.   Thank you - we appreciate all of you !!

"ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*Two blondes parked at the mall, got out of their car and realized they'd locked it with the keys inside.
"We'll have to break a window to ge them out," the first blonde said to the other.
"No," the second blonde replied.  "Maybe we can get a wire hanger and use it to unlock the door."
"That never works", said the first blonde.
"Well, we had better think of something fast.  It's starting to rain, and the top is down!" replied the second blonde.
(Notice - this did not say blonde women...........................)

QUOTE OF THE DAY - Rabbits jump & live 5 years;  Dogs run & live maybe 15 years;  Turtles do absolutely nothing & live 150 years -- Lesson learned!!!!

*If a woman tells you that you are right - that is the definition of sarcasm.

*IF YOU HAVE A “CAR JOKE” (or any joke) YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE CLUB, PLEASE SEND IT TO CHERYL!   **Remember, it has to be ‘printable’!!!
