“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
JULY - 2016

~Meeting was held Thursday, 7/21/16 and called to order at 6:45PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.
Thanks to the American Legion for another great dinner and at such a reasonable price. Everyone enjoyed the Mexican food.
~42 members and guests were present.
~There were no new members and one guest.
~A special thank you and gift card was also presented to Sonja Jackson from the Casino.  Without this fantastic lady, this would be almost impossible to do.  A gift card was also given to Levi - the Casino tech who took care of any issues we might have had that day.  Thank you to these two folks along with the Kansas Star Casino.
~A gift card and trophy was presented to Cameron Carlson who sang the National Anthem at Showdown.  She did a great job and we appreciate her willingness to help us with the show.
~A check and trophy was presented to the American Legion for their generosity in allowing the club to use their facility.  We all can agree that it is wonderful to meet in this great room and be cool in the summer and warm in the winter.  What a wonderful partnership the Marauders have with our American Legion Post.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report. The club's bank account is in great shape and all bills have been paid to current including those from Showdown.  The next disbursements will be to the three charities from the car show.
~Steve gave a breakdown of the expenses for the Show and a suggestion of amounts to donate to our charities along with other suggestions for donation opportunities. He also reminded members of our 'fixed' expenses which include our monthly 'refreshment' tab at the Legion, annual report fee, our donation to the Legion for use of the building, club insurance and our website expenses.
~After some discussion, the club came to a consensus on the amount to donate to our three major charities - Kansas Honor Flight, Kansas Food Bank/Backpack Program and the local Toys for Tots.  Each of these charities will be thrilled to learn that they are receiving more than the 2015 donation.  Great job Marauders for helping these charities that service families, children and Veterans in our community and our state.  Representatives from these charities will be presented checks at the August meeting.  Please make a special point of attending this meeting as we present these donations.
OTHER CHARITY OPTIONS WE CAN CONSIDER FOR ASSISTANCE:
*Assist approximately 30 advocates from the ARC attend the Starbird-Devlin Show in January 2017.  This is a donation we have done in the past.
*Mulane Children's Fund through the Mulvane School District to help children and families who need basic help with different issues.  We donated to this group last year.
*If you have thoughts, suggestions or comments about these additional donations or any others, please let any of the officers know.  We will discuss how to move forward at a future meeting.
~In years past the Marauders have donated stone signs for some of the parks in Mulvane.  After discussion of doing that again, it was suggested that instead of a stone sign at a park, perhaps we could do one at the new Mulvane Library.  A sign at the new library would be a great addition for the library and exposure for the club as we continue to assist the original purpose of Showdown with the beautification of Mulvane.  Kevin will look into this opportunity at the library and advise at the next meeting.
~In addition to our donations to the charities we will also be planning another Marauders Party/Picnic.  A date will be set in the near future and we are considering having the event at the Mulvane Sports Complex or at the American Legion.  We will be checking with Hog Wild about catering the event again this year.  If you have suggestions or comments regarding this fun event, please let us know. Kevin suggested that this would be a great time to invite anyone considering joining the club/membership drive.  If there is someone that you would like to invite that is thinking about joining the club, they would attend at no fee.
~Kevin announced it was time for nomination and election of officers.  After some discussion, the current officers were asked if they would consider continuing with their office for another year.  After affirming they would, a motion was made by Jerry Fletcher that we retain Kevin Cardwell, President;  Max Ayers, Vice-President, Cheryl Boyes, Secretary and Steve Nichols, Treasurer for the current 2016-2017 year.  Seconded by Harry Funke, motion passed.  Thank you to the officers for agreeing to continue to lead this great and generous club.  But we cannot do it alone - we need ALL of you to help move us forward as we continue to fullfill our mission of helping others and promoting & enjoying our hobby.
~Kevin announced that he is working on a new design for Marauders club shirts with some pin-stripes.  These would be good to be able to sell some additional club logo items at next year's Showdown event and for members to enjoy new shirts now.
~It was also suggested that we do another Club Calendar 2017.  We made some additional funds from selling the calendars and the ads all sold quickly for each of the months.   We will be checking into Envision doing the printing again and trying to set up members or others that would be willing to do some of the photo shoots along with places to take the pictures.   If your business purchased one of the monthly ads and you would be willing to do so again this year, let us know and we will put your business on the list of places to take pictures.    If you would participate by being in one of the photo shoots, please let us know.
AND - if you would be willing to help promote and organize this project with another member or two, please let us know.   We were able to sell the calendars for $5.00 each - it was a fun project and gave the club additinal funds to share with others.
We look forward to hearing from you!!!

*Paddy and Murphy are havin' a pint in a pub, when some scuba divers come on TV.  Paddy says, "Murphy, why is it them darn deep sea divers always sit on the edge of the boat with them air tanks on their backs, and then fall backwards out of the boat into the water?"
Murphy scratches his head and thinks for a minute and then says to Paddy, "Well that's easy.  It's cause if they fell forwards, they'd still be in the flippin' boat!!"
Have a better answer................??????
