“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
OCTOBER 2015

~Meeting was held Thursday, 10/22/15 and called to order at 7:05PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Some members enjoyed a Bierock Dinner at the Legion prior to the meeting.  The funds raised by this dinner assists the Legion Auxiliary with their mission!   Thanks for supporting them and sampling their great bierocks.
~About 41 members and guests were present. Thank you for your support and participation at the meetings. And most of the attendees enjoyed the dinner and fellowship prior to the meeting.  We look forward to doing this again in the near future.
~Great to have Chris Middendorf back with the club following surgery.  He is doing some treatments but on the road to recovery. We are glad to see him doing so well and thankful for the outcome.
~Guests Rhonda Parker and Donna Jantzen gave a presentation to the club regarding the Mulvane Childrens Fund and how the club might be able to help in the future.  This is a non-profit group that assists children in the Mulvane School District with a variety of needs.  Kevin also shared about this group and his experience with them through his daughter who is a teacher in Mulvane. We appreciate these ladies attending and sharing their work with us.
~Steve Nichols gave the recent treasurer's report.  The club's bank account has never looked so good - even after the disbursements to the three charities from the show proceeds, purchasing the English Park stone, paying 1/2 the calendars up front and the picnic.  Several deposits were made including the last few outstanding dues and calendar ads. We are in good financial standing to move forward to prepare for Showdown in the Valley for June 2016.  We will still need to pay for the website update.
~Kevin advised that the sign the club purchased for English Park will be installed in the next week.  Everyone needs to stop by and check it out and see another place that the Mulvane Marauders are helping in the community.
~Calendar Update Report
Steve reported that all the photos are now complete.  After completion of the artwork everything will be prepped and ready to go to Envision for set up.  At that point we will receive a proof and then ready to go to print.   As of this meeting we have 253 committed pre-orders for the calendar.  This is turning out to be a great fundraiser and a HUGE thank you to the calendar committee for all their diligient hard work on getting this accomplished.
Distribution of the calendars should be ready to pick up and pay by the November club meeting.  We will not be mailing calendars so please be at the November meeting to pick up and then we can finalize for the year.
~CLUB FAMILY PICNIC  - Sunday, 10/4/15 at the Mulvane Sports Complex was GREAT.  Good food, beautiful weather and wonderful fellowship with members.  Had some door prizes and music and a fun but way too short cruise afterwards.  For those who could not make it, we missed you but we will be doing it again next year!  We did not award the Hard Luck trophy to anyone as yet.
~Kasey McDowell and the website committe are still working on the new website.  Hopefully we will have a demo for all members to view at the November meeting.  We regret we haven't had one before now, but there is a lot of work going into this and we want the changes to be the best they can be and give the site a great representation of our club.  Thanks to Kasey ( who has a busy job and working hard on our website ) and the committee for all their meetings, ideas and diligence in getting this up and running.  We will all benefit and it will be great.
~Steve shared details about the upcoming Marauders breakfast at the American Legion.  It will be Saturday, November 14 at about 8:30AM.  Watch for reminders concerning this event.  The ladies of the Legion are really excited to have us so let's show our support for them and the Legion and make this a great turn out.  We tentatively have about 22 indicate they would attend.  We would like to have about 30-35  show up.  Feel free to invite family or friends.  Price will be $7.00 per person and they will be serving just about anything you could possibly want for breakfast.  This is another opportunity for the Marauders to support the Legion in appreciation for being able to use their great meeting room.  And we always welcome the chance to share a meal and fellowship together.
~It was also suggested that we make a donation to the Legion for using their building.  Like all organizations, things are sometimes tough and in order to help them and give the club a fantastic place to meet, a motion was made by Jack Marinelli & seconded by Tom Sparkman to donate $500 to the American Legion.  Motion passed.
~Last year Kevin Cardwell started the Ken Cummings Memorial Award - the idea was to award it to a member that seems to go beyond the call and do whatever it takes to make the club the best it can be.  This award was established in memory of Ken for his shining example of what club support really means.  This year the award was presented to Harry Funke.  His tireless hours to help with Showdown at the Casino is appreciated and he is always there lending a hand and participating wherever we need him.  Congratulations to Harry on an award well deserved!!!
~In staying with a long standing tradition of the club helping wherever they can and helping those in need, it was discussed that perhaps the club would entertain donating $100 to Jeff Myers who had a tragic accident this year at The Last Run in Ark City.
He has outstanding medical bills and his car was totalled in addition to damage to the car he hit.  Jack Marinelli made a motion we donate $100 to this fund.  Seconded by Ron Stalbaum, motion passed.  Jack volunteered  to get the check to him.
~ANOTHER GREAT MARAUDERS MOMENT - Several members attended the Priority Motorsports Open House and had a great time.  They put on a wonderful event and we were glad to be able to support them in return for all they have done for the club and their generous sponsorship of Showdown.  At the Open House they were giving away a motorcycle.  Of the (10) tickets chosen to be eligible for a "key", TWO members were drawn - Roberta Bailey and Marsha Hills.  From those 10 tickets, 5 were chosen for a key to see if theirs would start the bike.  Of those five - both Roberta and Marsha were once again eligible to pick a 'key'!!  The members attending were excited and proud to have two members sharing in this prize.  Three guys tried their keys... nothing.
We knew then a Marauder was going home with the bike.  Roberta tried hers - did not start.  EXCITEMENT was not even a fair description at that moment - Marsha tried her key and it wouldn't start - Jeff Horning from Priority tried for her - and the next thing we heard was VVRRRRRRROOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!   The Marauders very own Marsha Hills WON the motorcycle.  So - if you are interested in a motorcycle, the Hills have one for sale!!!  Congratulations on this big win!!!!!
~Upcoming Events:

ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*A friend of mine was sitting on a lawn chair, sunning and reading when he was startled by a fairly late model car crashing through a hedge and coming to rest on his lawn.
He helped the elderly driver out and sat her on a lawn chair.
"My goodness" he exclaimed, "you are quite old to be driving!"
"Yes" she replied, "I am old enough that I don't even need a license!"
"OHHH really", he said, "and why is that?"
"The last time I went to my doctor, he examined me and asked if I had a driver's license."  I told him "yes" and handed it to him.  He took a pair of scissors out of a drawer, cut the license into pieces and threw them in the wastebasket.  "You won't be needing that anymore," he replied.
Sooo, I thanked him, left and drove home!!
