“SMOKE AND GAS” FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS

APRIL 2015

~Meeting was held Thursday, 4/16/15 and called to order at 7:05PM by President Kevin Cardwell.
~About 34 members present.
~Welcome new member Lynn Houser who joined the club at the meeting and guest Bill Davis.  It was great having these new guys join us!!   Hope to see you back Bill!
~In absence of Max Ayers, Cheryl Boyes gave the treasurer's report.  A PO Box was set up in Mulvane for 6 months to facilitate ease of mailing for Showdown.  Also - there are two keys, Kevin has one and Max has the other to check for registrations and checks.
Last check written was for LLC incorporation to State of Kansas.
Max and a few other Marauders attended the Priority Motorsports Open House on Saturday the 11th.  They are a major sponsor for this year's Showdown.
~Kevin reminded members to check the website for upcoming shows and events.
~ UPDATE ON KANSAS STAR/SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY
~Special guest for the evening was Sonya Jackson - our contact person from the Kansas Star.  She asnwered questions and addressed the role of the Casino and all they were doing for the show.  This includes printing of flyers and forms, marketing, promotions and of course their generous donation of the Arena for two days.  They send out approximately 70,000 emails every week or so and the show will be included in those communications.  The flyer looks great and the charities we are helping will be added to the next printing.  Registration forms are complete & will include options for parking indoors and outdoors.
Vendor space is still available - 10 X 10 is $150 and folks can sell anything EXCEPT food, alcohol or promote another casino. So spread the word to those you know who have businesses or would like the opportunity to feature items they sell.  Each vendor will need to provide their own table/s & chairs and they can set up on Friday, 6/19 between 9AM and 9PM.  Marauders members can secure a vendor space for $100.  We have about 30 spaces and as of the meeting 14 were reserved.
~Sonya advised they would be advertising the show about 7-10 days prior to show date by displaying 2-3 cars in the foyer area between the arena and the casino.  The casino is highly secure with several hundred cameras & security personnel so cars will be protected then, for cars indoors the night before the show and all day Saturday.
~Kevin advised the club they were considering several charities that would benefit from the proceeds of this year's show.  We will continue to purchase the rock signs for the Mulvane parks and support the F.R.O.G. Diner at the Methodist Church.  Kevin suggested that the other groups that would benefit were Wichita Children's Home, Kansas Honor Flight and Toys for Tots/Kruz'n for Kids.  Jack Marinelli made a motion that we accept these 3 charities, seconded by Harry Funke, motion passed.  These three groups will have their logos added to the next show flyer.
~WE NEED ALL MEMBERS TO MAKE THIS A GREAT SHOW & ENSURE IT IS A FIRST CLASS EVENT
The following members have generously stepped up to be team captains. Sign up sheets were available at the meeting. They are:
Steve Nichols - Parking
Ron Stalbaum - Door Prizes
Jack Marinelli - Judging
Cheryl Boyes - Merchandise
Scott Hansen - Registration
Carl Fry - Gates
Harry Funke - Sponsorships/Vendors
David Orr - Friend of the Marauders - Motorcycles
Marvin the DJ will be outside so he can provide music, announcements and assist with door prizes.  We would like him in place by 8AM on Saturday prior to cars/bikes entering.  We will ask Marvin if he will bring his golf cart.
***EVERYONE NEEDS TO SECURE DOOR PRIZES - THE TEAM CAPTAIN CANNOT DO THIS ALONE - ALL KINDS OF POSSIBILITIES FOR PRIZES.  PLEASE BRING WHAT YOU HAVE PICKED UP TO THE MAY MEETINGS.  WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT WE ARE DEALING WITH, WEEKS PRIOR TO THE SHOW.  LET'S NOT BE THE LAST MINUTE!!!
~PLEASE CONTACT ONE OF THESE FOLKS AND VOLUNTEER - or contact an officer and they will get you in touch with one of these folks.
~Harry Funke and Kevin advised that the new Priority Motorsports had agreed to be a presenting sponsor for $2000!!  Thank you Harry for getting this new business on board with us.
~Kevin is looking at acrylic trophies similar to ones that were used at Starbird-Devlin Car Show.  They will incorporate the Kansas "Star" in the design and then have the club name on the base.  We need approximately 75 for all the judging classes, bikes and specialty awards.  We will have an award for the Casino to award as well.  The trophy sponsor fee should adequately purchase these awards.
~Jack Marinelli visited with B. Scott about doing the artwork for the show shirts.  In return we would give him a booth at the show.  Kevin will print all of the shirts.  There will be a special shirt for all volunteer in a different color than the regular shirts.  Jack will confirm with B. Scott in the next few days.
~A motion was made and seconded that we purchase a software program for car show/judging for this year's show.  It would streamline the process and ensure we have awards at the designated time with NO delays.  The program is $35 and can be used at future shows.  Motion passed.  Kevin is having Kasey look at it and then will move forward with this spreadsheet.
~Working together we can make this a great event.   WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE NOT VOLUNTEERED.
****UPDATE SINCE THE MEETING ***** SAVE THE DATE FOR THESE MEETINGS - MAY 7, MAY 21 & JUNE 11*****
Saddle Club at 7:00PM

~Kevin shared that the editor of the Mulvane newspaper was a bit concerned that the club was "abandoning" downtown Mulvane to have the show at the Casino this year.  With this bit of negative "rumbling", Kevin will contact the editor as the facts in the article weren't accurate and let them know we STILL support this community in all we do.  We truly DO NOT want anyone in Mulvane to think that is our intent.
In addition, Kevin suggested that the club join the Mulvane Chamber of Commerce for $100 a year.  This would be a good faith gesture and help promote the club as well. We still support the city!! Motion was made by Ron Stalbaum to join the Chamber.  Seconded by Steve Dale, motion passed.  Kevin will attend the monthly meetings.
~DEADLINE FOR DOOR PRIZES IS JUNE 1 - JUST A FEW WEEKS AWAY!!

NEW /OLD BUSINESS & MEMBER DISCUSSION:
~CALENDAR FOR 2016 -- Kevin once again discussed having a 2016 calendar like we did a couple of years ago.  This was a great money maker for the club and members seem generally in favor of it again.  Great fun to see members cars on this calendar.  Kevin announced that Don Heersche has agreed to 'help' put some photo shoots together.  It would be great if he could get a couple, three more members to help with this project.  We have some super locations that we can utilize - like Jack's place, Steve Dale's, Max Ayers and even the graffiti under Kellogg.   If you would be willing to volunteer and help the club with this please contact Kevin or one of the officers.  We will need good quality photos for this project and someone with a camera to lend a hand in getting these photos taken.
***THERE IS A SIGN UP SHEET IF YOU WANT YOUR CAR TO BE IN THE CALENDAR & ARRANGE FOR PHOTOS. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PROJECT.  DON COULD USE SOME ADDITIONAL HELP IN GETTING THESE PHOTOS SCHEDULED & TAKEN!   WE WILL HAVE TIME AFTER SHOWDOWN TO GET THIS COMPLETED IN AMPLE TIME TO HAVE PRINTED BY THE FIRST OF DECEMBER.

~Be sure and check the club events section of the website for upcoming events.  If you want an event added, please contact Cheryl.
~With no further business, meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM.

ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*While on a road trip, an elderly couple, stopped at Pizza Hut for lunch.  After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant and resumed their trip to Phoenix.
When leaving the elderly wife unknowingly left her glasses on the table, and she didn't miss them until they had been driving for about 40 minutes.  By then, to add to the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to turn around in order to even get back to the restaurant to get her glasses.
All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy odl man (!!!!)   He fussed & complained and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive back.  The more he chided her, the more agitated he became.  He just wouldn't let up for a moment.
To her relief, they finally arrived at the Pizza Hut.  As she got out of the car, and hurried inside to retrieve her glasse, the old geezer yelled to her "While you're in there, you might as well get my hat & the credit card!!!"
(Sound familiar ladies???????????????????)
